🚨 New NSC Report Highlights Critical DEI & MSD Connections 🚨
The National Safety Council (NSC) has released a crucial report examining the connection between diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the workplace. Key findings emphasize the impact of work conditions on employee health and safety:
🔑 Key Findings:
1. Shift Work & Long Hours: These factors, along with part-time status, can increase the prevalence of MSDs among workers.
2. Workstation Design: Employees using wheelchairs or those smaller than a fifth percentile female may struggle to access their workstations.
3. Lack of Benefits: Workplaces without paid sick leave and long-term disability benefits foster an “unsafe” culture, leading to employee anxiety about taking necessary time off after a workplace injury.
4. Racial & Ethnic Disparities: Black and Hispanic workers report the highest levels of unease about reporting unsafe work conditions.
5. Psychological Stress: Increased role conflict and lack of job control are linked to wrist, hand, shoulder, and lower back issues.
These findings underscore the urgent need for inclusive and supportive workplace practices to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees.
