One of the most difficult challenges as a product owner is to achieve change in a large and financial successful company. Working in smaller companies it seems there is always some kind of urgency, need to change. To survive or for the next round of investments. Leader at large succesful company "We have done a great job as a product team" Product person "How do you know that this success is a result of our effort?" Leader "Ehh.. we don't.." A lot of these companies function as a feature factory, output over outcome. With product owners as their mercenaries that simply execute. If our profit/revenue grows why change? Why take a risk? A lot of the time these companies do something very well, otherwise you wouldnt have money to burn in the product fireplace. Companies might be able to sell a lot of products or have a big client base but so did Nokia, Blackberry or Polaroid.. The biggest difference between companies like Google, Meta, Amazon and these slow dying companies is product leadership. It's innovate or die. #innovateordie #inspired #measuresuccess

How does a product manager work towards bringing clarity to technical teams and leadership? Read on… Yesterday, I had the opportunity to sit down with a veteran product leader - Benjamin Niaulin. We delve deep into product strategy, building solutions, books, future of work, etc. To bring clarity and reducing silos, Benjamin with the team decided to try something different. He also mentioned that the team was inspired by Teresa Torres. Now, within few years, they are witnessing significant improvements to team’s efficiency. We briefly talked about books with inspire empathy in any team settings. Benjamin mentioned Satya Nadella’s Hit Refresh as an inspiration. Thank you, Benjamin for such an open and warm conversation!
