Thank you AGE-WELL NCE Inc. for a wonderful conference on the future of technology and aging (well). And to my colleague, the exceedingly impressive Nazek Abdelmutti for the invitation to join.
How enlightening it was to learn from a breadth of perspectives - from researchers and care providers, to seniors and caregivers, government and product innovation leaders.
Representation is core to design, health equity, and ultimately, building a brighter future for us all.
Two nuggets that resonated for me:
(1) Aging is not limited to a number of years, nor the biological changes that comes with. We also continue to grow, develop, adapt across other dimensions - psychologically, spiritually, and sociologically.
How might we design and evolve the many ingredients that make our lived experience feel rich and fulfilling? Our sense of connection, community, autonomy, use of tools to enable such.
(2) In research and design: the importance of integrating older adult and caregiver perspectives (a) early and often (b) spanning a range of socio-cultural backgrounds.
My inbox is open to all. Would love to connect with any fellow researchers and designers in healthcare, and change makers in older adult care.
Until then, take care.
