GET READY to embark on a captivating journey from the skies to the cosmos as we delve into the realm of space operations with Lieutenant Colonel Peter M. Atkinson of the United States Army, Space Operations In his thought-provoking article, "From Air to Space: The Perils of Domain Parochialism," COL Atkinson explores the intriguing correlation between 20th-century air domain functions and the challenges faced by the 21st-century space domain. With a keen focus on the lessons learned from air defense, naval aviation, and close air support, COL Atkinson identifies a phenomenon he terms "domain parochialism." This limited, self-absorbed outlook within military domains can hinder innovation adoption and capability development, shedding light on why certain functions become contentious. Drawing parallels between the historical evolution of the air and space domains, COL Atkinson's research provides invaluable insights into the changing landscape of military operations. He emphasizes the importance of transcending traditional roles and domain boundaries, embracing integration, and fostering collaborative efforts to ensure success in 21st-century warfare. Anticipate a compelling narrative as we venture into the world of space operations, uncovering the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Get ready to expand your horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of military functions in the air and space domains. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), SASC Ranking Member the following paper today: Snippets re: the U.S. Space Force: Every military service relies on the Space Force to communicate, navigate, target, and conduct modern warfare. The U.S. Space Force has enjoyed real budgetary growth since its inception, but that does not mean it cannot do more. Classified programs in development must be procured at scale. The Space Force also must be able to defend itself in space and on the ground. Assured access to space remains a top priority for the Space Force, and the launch industry cannot be allowed to consolidate or stop driving down cost-per-launch. The Space Force must ride the zeitgeist of rapid commercial development in the space domain and use that to its advantage. T The size of the Space Force and Space Command unfunded requests in FY25 belie the fact that much more can be done to ensure the U.S. retains the advantage in space. https://lnkd.in/ei8umPd5

A friendly, periodic reminder that that the space domain was "born" contested. There is much valuable military space history that should be appreciated by all Guardians and those serving the joint U.S. Space Command to #ProtectAndDefend our space-enabled capabilities. (Although I spent 20 years in active duty solely working "space", none of my training or education offered up an opportunity to appreciate this rich history). An excellent source document bringing this into focus is the 58 year old (1965) "NORAD Qualitative Requirement for a Space Detection and Tracking System" (SPADATS) (Declassified in 2013). See excerpt below, full document is here: https://bit.ly/47PLK49 (resolves to a gwu.edu URL). When I first read the required object state accuracies for weapons support, I thought NM was nanometers - wow!! :-) .... ummmm, that would be nautical miles. That being said, a 1 nautical mile along track requirement at 3 sigma is pretty impressive (approx. 620 meters at 1 sigma)! Military Space History #3

Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation's Maegen Nix, PhD, Decision Science Division Director, and Christina Houfek, Project Manager and Principal Investigator along with Jim Moreland Jr, Ph.D. and Dr. Tyler Englestad bring you a compelling and captivating approach to “Capability Neutralization Warfare: A Systems-Informed Theory of Victory.” In the latest Naval Engineers Journal, the article describes how the threat is evolving the battlespace and introduces system destruction warfare. The article continues with the presentation of the capability neutralization warfare counterapproach and combines existing and emerging competencies to develop its concept. Finally, it explores how capability neutralization warfare impacts the United States defense ecosystem, requiring a reimagining that integrates research, engineering, acquisition, sustainment, testing, and operational force contributions into a friendly theory of victory. Engaging, relevent discussion; especially appreciate highlighting “why” this effort matters to us all. ~17min why you need a continuous presence on Intelligence in (not just at Gates) Acquisition to match pace of changing threats; “need industry partners to be threat informed” - offer that includes beyond space to other critical infrastructure… ~28min “gray zone”/below the threshold of armed conflict in space, cyber, and critical infrastructure.

I have a new book coming out on outer space warfare that summarizes all that I have learned on this subject for the past 50 years. Every other book I know about space warfare merely discusses potential policy issues on this critical subject, many times by authors who have had no prior real-world experience in actual space weapons programs. This book is different as it discusses practical warfighting doctrine, strategies and tactics. This is not a theoretical book, but a summary of actual practices of how to fight and win space wars at a realistic, operational level. Since this is a limited edition printing, order soon before this book sells out. It is destined to become a classic for space wars in the same manner as Clausewitz's "On War" or Sun Tzu's "Art of War" became classics for terrestrial conflicts. If you see me at any future space trade shows, I can personally autograph a copy for you. My co-author, Jerry Drew, best summarizes this book below: https://lnkd.in/gC2sxcCi
Some of you know that Paul Szymanski and I have been working on a space warfare book for the past five years. That book is now available in hardback and is available for pre-order from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Wal-Mart. As of today it is #6 on Amazon’s “Military Policy” books list. We wrote this book because we believe that this is a book that our Joint Force desperately needs. And I believe that we wrote the book that only we could write. If you have any interest in space, warfare, or the military, this is 365 pages (with numerous full-color graphics) of how-to’s, why-to’s, and what-to’s. We literally wrote the book on military space operations for the all-domain future. ————————— Barnes and Noble: https://lnkd.in/gbv73qNC Wal-Mart: https://lnkd.in/gqJFtQPZ Amazon: https://lnkd.in/g72Jwnnz

When you stop by the USO at Denver International Airport, you’ll come across a massive wall adorned with unit patches from across the services. Every unit and mission you can think of…it’s there. It’s an amazing piece of art, made possible when members add their own personal patch to it. Taking it all in, you might wonder…what connects all of these mission sets together? What truly makes our joint forces….joint? Is there a common thread that binds US Army, United States Marine Corps, US Navy, United States Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, United States Space Force? Indeed there is. #SPACE Our forces depend on orbital assets every single day, from comm to ISR to precision navigation and beyond.
