Give Smart Michigan 2024 - Help Defend a One Seat Majority! — Donate via ActBlue https://lnkd.in/gVbtH_ts Five Michigan State House seats. Jaime Churches (HD-27) Jenn Hill (HD-109) Matt Koleszar (HD-22) Denise Mentzer (HD-61) Nate Shannon (HD-58) Make one contribution that is split among five candidates. Signing up to ActBlue Express makes it easier to contribute. There are from 100 to 150 candidates to support across the country: legislators; attorneys general; secretaries of state; governors; Federal Congresspeople and Senators. Start to support democracy. Focusing on individual candidates is not the right mindset. We, our democracy, are directly impacted by all these elections. All these elections determine how effective our representatives might be in office. No one candidate gets much, if anything, done by themselves. Presidents can't get legislation passed if Congress doesn't propose that legislation, and the Senate passes on that legislation. Every state without: a pro-democracy legislative majority; a pro-democracy governor; a pro-democracy secretary of state; a pro-democracy attorney general, is a state where elections can be stolen; a state that is a potential vote to remove democracy from our Constitution in a Constitutional Convention. Republicans get this. Republicans focus on state level races. Republicans have almost enough states under their control to call a Constitutional Convention and remove democracy from the Constitution. If we allow that, our loss of democracy, possibly forever, will be on us. We must contribute; vote; encourage others to also contribute, vote, encourage others to do the same. Joe Biden's age is not an issue. Democracy is THE issue. We cannot just say "democracy is at stake." We must explain to all what democracy is, where democracy comes from, who gives us democracy, that others can take our democracy away, are close to doing so, what it means to lose democracy. We must understand the compromises pro-democracy people need to make, how we must frame messages, to get as many voters as possible to vote for democracy. We must allow state and local majorities that do not agree with us to control their own lives and beliefs. We cannot ourselves be authoritarians. People must understand they are not "losing their country," that they are being manipulated to fear things they should not fear, to hate people they have no reason to hate. It is the responsibility of all people who claim to be pro-democracy to bring that message in the right way, to let as many fellow citizens as possible to understand that they are not being "left behind." I accept that I disagree with many of my fellow citizens. I do not accept that we must be a country at war with itself. That only happens if we let that happen. We don't have to let it happen. We can find enough people among U.S. citizens to agree to disagree. We can defeat those who would sow chaos to gain power and dictatorship.

In recent years, the discourse surrounding political campaign and donation reform in Australia has reached a tipping point and it’s clear to most people that change is needed. Spearheaded by the crossbench, including the Australian Greens and independent politicians, there has been a renewed push for sweeping changes to how political campaigns are funded and how donations are regulated. Transformational Leader | Technology & Management Consultant | Vice President Information Technology | Community Organizer
Dan Fumano: ABC Vancouver returns $116,000 in prohibited donations from 2022 election ABC's financial agent said the party believed they had followed the campaign finance rules when they endorsed four formerly independent candidates and merged bank accounts. This turned out not be the case, and the party has refunded the prohibited cash. (Excerpt) ABC Vancouver has returned $116,000 in prohibited donations accepted before the 2022 election that the party dominate in races for mayor, city council, school board and park board. On Dec. 20, ABC filed an amended 2022 election financial disclosure with Elections BC. Unlike the party’s original disclosure filed almost a year earlier, the new version includes three pages listing “prohibited campaign contributions and loans.” But ABC’s political rivals say this is not a good look for the party and its leader, Mayor Ken Sim, FCPA, FCA. Sim, an accountant and businessman with no experience in government, ran for office on a platform of financial expertise. Some are also calling for further investigation and a review of campaign finance rules. ABC has not been fined or penalized for the prohibited contributions, but Elections B.C. is reviewing ABC Vancouver’s amended report, Elections B.C. spokesperson Melanie Hull said Thursday. Sal Robinson, a director with political TEAM for a Livable Vancouver, reviewed various Vancouver parties’ filings last year and identified what appeared to be discrepancies in ABC’s donations. TEAM notified Elections B.C. in July 2023, Robinson said, and sent more information in October, with a spreadsheet estimating ABC had accepted as much as $119,000 in apparently offside donations. This does not reflect well on a party that wants to run a $2 billion-a-year operation like the City of Vancouver, said TEAM president Cleta Brown, especially considering that a single TEAM member volunteering their time identified the violations. “I accept that mistakes do happen. And a handful of mistakes wouldn’t be worth any concern. But this is large-scale, amongst known people,” Brown said. “These are people they know, people they solicited. This isn’t money coming in randomly in the mail from strangers. … They have to do better than say: ‘It’s complicated.’ That’s not good enough.” David Pasin, a former NPA board member and 2022 park board candidate, said: “For a party that prided itself on fiscal responsibility, their bookkeeping leaves a lot be desired.” Pasin pointed out that Sim also ran into campaign finance issues during his first run for office. After Sim’s 2018 mayoral run with the NPA, Elections B.C. found the candidate had made two prohibited loans before the election, of $12,000 and $25,000, from his personal bank account to the campaign account. Green Party of Vancouver Coun. Pete Fry called ABC’s amended disclosure “disappointing, but not entirely surprising.” #vanpoli #vancouver #integrity #transparency #trust #campaignfinance

The Economist has released a very interesting tool for investigating the expected voting intentions of various UK socio-demographic categories. My conjecture: those currently in government are now expending more time and effort to secure their future roles and employment out of office (private sector, quangos, charities, etc) rather than committing time and effort to winning the coming election. https://lnkd.in/e6PQ2tQS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 20, 2024 With These Fundraising Numbers, Trump Would Fire Himself Campaign Efforts To Raise Money Are Not Going Well. At All. It does not take an accountant to see how bad Donald Trump’s February fundraising numbers are. By the numbers: Donald Trump raised $20 million in February that is less than half the $53 million Team Biden-Harris raised in February Donald Trump has less than $42 million cash-on-hand, which is less than one-third of the $155 million cash-on-hand that Team Biden-Harris has. Fun fact: We raised $10 million in the 24 hours after President Biden’s State of the Union Address – that’s half of what Trump raised in all of February. In response to Trump’s embarrassing fundraising, Biden-Harris 2024 Communications Director Michael Tyler released the following statement: “If Donald Trump put up these kinds of numbers on The Apprentice, he’d fire himself. But here’s why he ain’t got it: his extreme, toxic agenda of banning abortion, slashing Social Security, and promoting political violence is repelling donors and doing exactly *nothing* to earn support from the voters who will decide this election. “When he’s not hiding out in Mar-a-Lago, he’s calling into white supremecist radio to traffic in antisemitic tropes or saying there’ll be a ‘bloodbath’ if he loses. Even if he had the money, it’s not a message the voters would buy.” ###

.'Target Majority NYC is one of the oldest & largest local Swing Left groups, now an Indivisible chapter, as well. We've been calling, knocking, writing, texting, and registering voters in swing districts all across the country, all the way back to March of 2017. Our mission & commitment: to find and run the highest-impact actions focused on tight but winnable races that are existential for our people, our democracy, and our planet. This year, we've already started working to flip back the NY House districts we just lost, especially NY01 & NY03. How? By working with in-district partners to register and turn out voters in local elections and asking Dems to commit to vote next year, and help 3 friends to get out and vote as well. We use self-addressed postcard that has been proven through research to lift turnout by margins that can win tight elections, even from this far in advance! Many of us are also volunteering with the Coalition to Replace Jay Jacobs, working to fix the NY Democratic Party ahead of next year's election. Other work this year: helping WisDems win control of the WI State Supreme Court! And next, to help VA hold the state house for Dems and prevent a vicious GOP trifecta in this crucial bellwether state. Some of our past achievements: In 2022 we stockpiled 175K Vote Forward letters, and traveled in person to register and turn out voters in 6 nearby swing districts in PA and NY. In '21, our team worked hard to change the national dialogue around fixing the filibuster in the effort to pass Voting Rights for transformative Racial Justice. Our Climate Working Group issues a monthly newsletter with actions each of us can take to stop the Climate Crisis. And we lead numerous trainings in everything from Birddoging Techniques to get your elected to answer your question on the record, to Deep Canvassing, to writing truly Personal Stories in our Vote Forward letters to better persuade swing voters, and more. You can help power our members to achieve even more with a donation to www.bit.ly/tmgiving. And join us!' https://lnkd.in/e6XZkVif #democracymatters
