During #PrideMonth, we celebrated by raising the Pride flag at our Aliso Viejo and Costa Rica locations, hosting the LGBTQ Center Orange County for a presentation on the importance of creating an inclusive environment and launching the new LGBTQ MicroVention Affinity Group. As we wrap up PRIDE Month, MicroVention is dedicated to our inclusive policies for our diverse workforce EVERY DAY, where we strive to create an environment where everyone can be their authentic selves and feel valued and respected. Dear business leaders, As we approach LGBTQ+ Pride Month, it's important to remember that meaningful support is more than just posting rainbows and making press statements. We must take tangible actions to support our LGBTQ+ employees and create a safe, authentic work environment. Marching in a parade is fun, but there is hard work to he done. This means implementing policies that protect and support LGBTQ+ individuals, and actively working against politicians and policies that do not prioritize LGBTQ+ rights. Allyship is hard work, but it is necessary work. Let's make this Pride Month a time of true progress and change. I once worked for an organization that initiated 'People Month'. As a young HR leader, I railed against 'just one month' being focused on people. What I learned however, is that that one month provided an opportunity to elevate the conversation about people, people strategy, value and recognition and proved a great catalyst for positive momentum. Like 'people month', Pride month brings a focus but genuine commitment to inclusion is ongoing. Here are some good tips to help employers maintain that momentum to provide a place where people feel that they belong and can bring their best selves to work.
Pride Month has just come to an end, but this doesn't mean that the commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion should! As advocates for corporate social responsibility with a diverse team, we strive for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion because they're essential values. However, effectively communicating these values can be challenging for companies particularly during LGBTQ+ Pride Month when companies unveil rainbow-themed products and rebranding efforts. The phenomenon of "rainbow washing" has led to skepticism towards brands that seem to capitalize on the LGBTQ+ community, often resulting in fumbled Pride messaging or misaligned values.
