Huge congrats to Tyler Borek, Habib Moody, and Literably! I'm thrilled for Tyler and the team and look forward to seeing them grow their business and impact as part of Heggerty. Tyler first reached out to me in 2012 after reading a random blog post of mine that had some ideas on how to improve student testing. He and Habib were building an assessment tool for math at the time, and I loved the way they thought about improving the way educational assessment was done. That approach subsequently turned into Literably, and I was fortunate to be a small investor. For 10+ years, I've enjoyed following (and occasionally joining) Literably's journey to measure and improve literacy for students. Tyler has been an impressive leader -- relentless and innovative and thoughtful -- and it's great to see him and the team get to this point!
🎊 Big news: I’m delighted to share that Literably has been acquired by Heggerty, a leading provider of evidence-based literacy programs that are used and loved by over half of US school districts. Literably is joining forces with Heggerty to weave together assessment and instruction, so teachers can easily identify and address students’ literacy needs. When Habib Moody and I started Literably over a decade ago - scoring assessments by hand from our one-room apartment - we believed that literacy assessment could have a tremendous positive impact on students. But to fulfill that promise, assessment couldn’t be a drain on instructional time, and it couldn’t be a “black box” disconnected from instruction. I am incredibly proud of the success we’ve had saving teachers time. Using Literably, educators have already saved millions of instructional hours. By partnering with Heggerty, we can not only save time but also provide evidence-based instructional next steps tailored to each student’s needs - making a real, tangible impact for millions of students. I am so grateful to our school partners and to the tens of thousands of educators who have encouraged us and helped mold Literably into what it is today. We absolutely love working with you. And we couldn’t be more excited about what we’ll do together in this next chapter. 🙌 I’d also like to thank the small band of big-hearted impact investors who believed in and backed this project and provided endless rounds of advice and support over the years. We can never thank you enough. 🙏 Finally, a huge shout out to the mighty Literably team for your tireless work on behalf of educators and students. I’m so proud of what we’ve built, and I can’t wait for what we’ll build next.
