I read an article in The Economist back in 2017, which highlighted that data is more valuable than gold. I remember thinking back then, “Yeah Right! Get real, gold is is gold… Data is just a bunch of random information compiled online. It’s meaningless.”
Seven years, countless articles and a Cambridge Analytica documentary later. I now see how data has surpassed gold and even oil in the value derived from it as a resource.
Ever wondered what propelled the worlds largest tech giants to become the mammoths they are today?
Google, Meta, TikTok, Amazon, and countless others?
The secret lies in their ability to harness consumer data and use it in meaningful ways.
The value of data doesn’t always, seemingly, translate into money.

As a VP of Marketing, I find it incredibly frustrating when I see teams still relying on separate reporting tools or, worse, making decisions based on guesswork.
In my experience, managing a team that operates in silos or lacks a data-driven mindset can be incredibly frustrating. It consumes valuable time and creates unnecessary complexity. When crucial decisions are on the line, there's no room for uncertainty or inefficiency.

I always tell my clients that our goal at Meltwater is to give them the insights and data to back up their gut feelings. To give them the "so what". To tell their executives that those buzzwords all over social media really aren't that big of a deal in the large scheme of things. To get them ahead of any crisis or emerging narrative.
