Staff Stories – a weekly celebration of great Club Industry staff! Engaged staff and the journey of celebrations in week two takes us to Rosedale Golf Club and a great conversation with Chris Serré, Clubhouse Manager. One of the things I respect about Chris and Rosedale is a dedication to developing leaders through its MID (Manager in Development Program). One can only imagine how many future hospitality leaders will be born from this program. #clubleadership #stafflearning Through our conversation I discovered that Rosedale has built staff celebration into their weekly ops meeting – a great habit of #extraordinaryteams – and therefore a place of many great staff stories to choose from! Alas, I had to choose one though! This is a story of a leader seeing potential in all places and all people and an underdog hero! Rosedale also supports programs through Community Living Ontario, and occasionally hire to support this cause – a service close to my heart as my sister works in this space. One such employee was asked to “step up” recently due to an employee leaving the Club to accelerate points in a journey towards their permanent resident status (that’s a whole other story). This young man’s journey started slow, with lots of support and control, and as I understand his laugh is as big as he is a human being. In a recent Hospital Charity tournament, this gent was asked if he could support the on-course vendor stations, and many thought he was not capable of the task. But a leader who sees talent believes in chances and opportunities! After seeing the course for just the second time on a tour, our hero remembered directions, location of all the stations and even moved to being proactive with supplies - ice and Gatorade, and texting ahead of time to speed up deliveries! The training wheels were off and flying solo - talk about stepping up! Where few thought he could succeed – he thrived and broke through barriers for great service! Gives me chills just thinking about it! The charity raised money, the players had a great day and stayed hydrated 😊, and one staff member believes more in themself! Now that’s a leader to celebrate and a staff person stepping up beyond expectations! This is how we build engaged staff! Sharing is caring – these are the stories we must share everywhere – even if we leave names out for staff that aren’t motivated by shining a light on them. These are stories to share with your entire team and Rosedale does that on our digital noticeboard among other places – this is how employees in all departments feel like they are a part of something bigger and we create Culture and meaning in our work!
