I have been using my break to satisfy my curiosity, work on my resume and portfolio, and apply to some fantastic internship programs. First Pixar next Dreamworks.
To satisfy my curiosity I've been learning some new things on my own. I know Unreal Engine is going to be a major player in the entertainment industry, especially in animation and VFX. Both fields I'm going to college for. I've been working on the "Your First Hour in Unreal Engine 5" tutorial and I just finished the blueprints section. This program really is amazing and incredibly simple to use. I just instinctively started using Maya shortcuts like W, E, and R to move, rotate, and scale. They worked! I didn't even have to keep going to the top of the screen to edit the objects. Obviously, I didn't learn everything there is to know about blueprints, but I know how to find them and the general flow of things. I find it all to be very fascinating. Even my senior in high school was amazed with my level and he has been playing with unreal since approximately fifth grade. He had his hands in it when it first came out, trying to make video games. The times we live in are extremely exciting.
I am led by my curiosity. Since I applied for the undergraduate program at Pixar, I looked up some of their stuff my instructor shared with my 3D class last semester. I found the Pixar in a Box courses at Khan Academy and started working on those as well. All my teacher friends would find the lesson plans with core requirements listed extremely helpful. I know I would have on some of those days I substituted for them.
When I'm stuck waiting on someone or something I am reading Animation Background Layout from Student to Pro by Mike S. Fowler.
I started a blog to share what I learn as I go. Even stuff that's not worthy of a place in my Portfolio. Just because I like learning and sharing what I learn. It's fun for me and it keeps me busy. Plus, it makes the skills learned stick better. I found this amazing Microsoft Program that makes the blog's appearance and layout look soo much better. It even has interactive bits and the html code works well in blogger. So that is where I'm starting my blog. I have an about me post up. You can also view the original Sway here:

I am working on the next one already. I have all of the content ready to sway for a how to tutorial on how to make your own custom materials on your smart phone or table and export them to your pc for use in your favorite 3D program.
Be sure to follow my blog if your as excited as I am about learning new things.
