Co-founder @Sonderland.games - BELLA WANTS BLOOD! Coming soon to STEAM!🚀

A year ago, our first game’s release didn’t go well… 📉 Or so I thought for a long time! 🤦♂️ The past months have been a crazy rollercoaster as an entrepreneur trying to build a business shipping premium indie games on Steam. Landnama launched in July 2023 with 25k wishlists, sold about 35k copies to date, required a lot of fixing, and caused lots of headaches, joys, and disappointments. It’s not a hit. In the midst of heavily advertised indie success stories, or VC-backed all-star mobile games teams and releases, it’s hard not to compare yourself, your games/products, and start doubting it will go anywhere in the long run. You start looking for jobs… For a while, I saw this launch as “not life-changing” because my success paradigm dictated that it was not. In my eyes, we had botched the release and I couldn’t feel genuinely proud. We didn’t even celebrate the launch as a team and had to go into fire-fighting mode on day 1. As I reflect while writing this post, I realize I have shifted my definition of success over the past few months. And I now feel good, proud, and motivated by our mission to make unique games. Today, I see our success in the fact that: 🩸The dream I had for years of doing my own game or product while sitting at my old jobs is fulfilled. 🩸People paid their hard-earned money to buy OUR stuff. 🩸I transitioned from being a lead product manager on PC and mobile games to being a game artist (among many other hats). 🩸We made enough revenue to put us in the top 7% of indie game studios who survive their first launch. 🩸We built a GOOD team and work better and faster together. 🩸I have learned a ton about releasing and marketing products on Steam. 🩸I’ve built a solid network of indie game developers and games industry people in Berlin and around the world (lovely and supportive people). 🩸I get to spend much time with my family and pick my 3-year-old from kita every day. Maybe my take is a little naive, but I wish for everyone to discover their definition of success and see their worth in the smaller things too. It has been the strongest motivator in my journey and helped me keep going through the desert that starting a business is. But it took me a while to realize that and accept that I’m running a marathon and not a sprint. Now, what’s next for us you might ask?! Well… a new game!🚀 We just announced our second game🩸BELLA WANTS BLOOD🩸- a dark and absurd roguelike tower defense with a brand new page and DEMO on Steam! Check it out, share the news and hit the WISHLIST button! Let's make it a hit together 💪🥳 P.S. Wishlisting the game is the single most effective way you can support us. The more we gather before June 16th and the higher game will rank in NextFest. Thanks! 🤟 https://lnkd.in/epr9JmvH #indiegames #Entrepreneurship #gamedev
