C-Suite Exec | Philanthropic Leader | Board Director

As I prepare to officially take the reins as president & CEO of the Knight Foundation tomorrow, it is appropriate to celebrate the visionary leadership and lasting impact of my predecessor, the inimitable Alberto Ibarguen. His exemplary stewardship of the foundation, including the disbursement of more than $2 billion during his tenure in support of journalism sustainability, the arts and strengthening Knight communities, is well-documented. But let me tell you what I've learned about Alberto the exemplary human being over these past few months. He's a leader, the kind people choose to follow. He's generous — with his time, his passion, his humanity, his wealth of relationships, his hard-earned wisdom. He has a sharp wit and strong opinions, formed after careful study of the issues. He adores his family. Unsurprisingly, people have often remarked I have "big shoes to fill." To which, Alberto readily replies, "It's a good thing she has the sense to wear her own shoes." Indeed I do. But I'm also grateful to have the benefit of Alberto's excellent example, and more importantly, his friendship. Cheers to you, Alberto Ibarguen! P.S. Call any time. #leadership #philanthropy #newbeginnings

A very thoughtful and appropriate tribute to one of the great generational executives and leaders for the newspaper media industry. A role model, inspiration and friend to so many. Alberto will be missed commensurate to his contributions... which means greatly. Best wishes to both of you, Alberto and Maribel.
