"Texas is seeing 'insatiable' desire for electricity..." ERCOT's 2030 load growth forecasts have increased by 40GW in just one year's time. This increase can largely be attributed to new demand from AI, data centers, and industrial electrification. Co-located industrial solar for these types of consumers will be part of the solution that keeps Texas in business and online. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g-WCKF-8 #ERCOT #datacenters #AI

🌟Explore the power of #EdgeAI in transforming the electricity sector ⚡ THE CHALLENGE: 🔋 The rise in distributed energy resources (DERs) connecting to the grid posed a significant challenge for Cuerva, a leading Spanish Energy Operator. They needed a predictive system to anticipate consumption and production trends, preventing grid congestion and overvoltage incidents. THE SOLUTION: 🔮 Barbara facilitated the #EdgePlatform to deploy #AI algorithms for precise demand and generation forecasting incorporating #MLOps methodologies for efficient retraining of algorithms directly at the edge. 🔧 Built on a robust edge infrastructure, our solution employs Edge Nodes (Hardware) powered by Barbara's OS and an extensive technology stack. This design bridges the gap between edge and cloud, facilitating the smooth operation of distributed components. Ready to ride the tech wave? 💡 Dive into the future of energy management with Barbara's cutting-edge technology! Interesting thought here. The two biggest grow opportunities of the next 50 years are intrinsically connected. The drive for developing new #AI/#ML/#LLM/#genai and #CleanEnergy. Without a lot more energy and a large stable #grid to get it to those data centres all of this new wave of AI may find itself facing an unexpected limiting hurdle. Electricity connections. If the grid can't scale fast enough to meet demand of AI or BEV charging (which it currently can't) then will we see: A) more data centres next to wind farms where curtailment is ever increasing and wind farm developers are looking for offtakers. B) a driver for hydrogen as a faster more flexible way of "upgrading the grid" as hydrogen production, transportation and re-electrification can be put in place much faster than the grid. C) something else? Article to trigger the thought. Thank you See Wah Cheng for sharing it with me originally. https://lnkd.in/eXp8Ydmm

MIC DROP Michael Kokal! 🖐 🎤 .....no one talks about this 👇 ...... "We found that the manufacturer used ~30% more trucks than were required based on the size of the freight being shipped. In real numbers it was 115 extra trucks, 800 tons of excess carbon emitted, and ~$700K of added cost. Extrapolate those figures over the global footprint of this hyperscaler and you have substantial carbon emissions that can be addressed now." #TruckOptimization -- what reason is there not to do it now? Save big money, save big emissions Super cool 😎 #datacentersolutions
I've sat on and listened to multiple #datacenter conference panels in the last 2 years. It’s no surprise that sustainability is a popular topic. What is surprising is that as an industry we haven’t been able to identify immediately impactful mitigation strategies; most of our peers agree that progress needs to be made but very few ideas are truly actionable today. Some suggestions are quite innovative and actionable with great promise, but will take time to make a difference. Modular nuclear reactors are terrific in theory, but have years of regulatory battles before even being considered a viable alternative to fossil fuels. Engaging suppliers to develop a plan for monitoring and reducing emissions in the supply chain is obviously necessary but will take time to bear fruit. Firms like CleanArc Data Centers are blazing an impressive trail to address the need for clean data center power in the Hyperscale space, and Compass Datacenters is repurposing existing buildings, but construction and adoption will take time. So, what can the leaders in this space do today to not only reduce emissions but practice emissions avoidance? One impactful strategy: trailer optimization. KODIS has done enough delivery chain analyses in the last year for me to be certain that one immediately impactful strategy is trailer optimization. For example, KODIS performed an analysis for a single product critical to a hyperscaler's building. We found that the manufacturer used ~30% more trucks than were required based on the size of the freight being shipped. In real numbers it was 115 extra trucks, 800 tons of excess carbon emitted, and ~$700K of added cost. Extrapolate those figures over the global footprint of this hyperscaler and you have substantial carbon emissions that can be addressed now. The idea of trailer optimization, which is loading a trailer to capacity, is not going to tackle the emissions issue plaguing the data center industry, but it is an incremental step toward emissions avoidance and is something the entire industry can do today. Steps forward are still progress. Small wins are still wins. #sustainability #projectlogistics #3pl #supplychain #freightmanagement #warehousemanagement DatacenterDynamics DCAC Live

As the demands of AI technologies intensify the data center industry's power consumption and carbon footprint, our Global Technology Market Sector Lead Mario Sawaya shares insights on how to create cleaner, greener data centers. Despite the plateau in power usage efficiency (PUE), innovative solutions like AI-optimized cooling and hydrogen fuel cells offer potential pathways to greater sustainability. Retrofitting older data centers and repurposing their excess heat for community heating projects are also key strategies in reducing the sector's environmental impact.
