What could happen if Live Nation loses its domination in live events and ticketing? Our friends at Situation have some thoughts: Last week, the Justice Department sued entertainment giant Live Nation in an antitrust lawsuit claiming the company’s domination of the concert industry was stifling innovation and hurting consumers. The effects of this lawsuit are sure to be felt across the live entertainment industry: (1) Data: As one can imagine, Live Nation holds a significant amount of targetable data on live event attendees across the country. This data is key to running efficient digital media campaigns that expand the reach to new audiences. (2) Fees: The antitrust suit could force Live Nation to do away with fees which may set a precedent for ticketing platforms. As consumers get used to seeing transparency pricing, “Free-from-Fees” sales tactics may become obsolete. (3) Buying Ahead: Before online ticket buying became the norm, lines would form around the block for the latest megahit. If buying early in person becomes something more regular for Live Nation concerts, there’s a world in which the excitement built around a box office opening is just a part of the marketing plan. 🌟 Broadway Box Office Update: Week Ending May 26, 2024 🌟 Last week, Broadway saw strong box office performances with a total gross of $36,381,958, up 6.67% from the same week last season. Here's a quick look at some highlights: •Wicked led with a significant gross of $2,003,492, a $156,449 increase from the previous week. •The Lion King grossed $2,220,842, marking a $190,426 rise, showing the continued appeal of long-running hits. •Aladdin also performed well with a gross of $1,356,415, up $82,535. •Hadestown saw an increase of $84,746, grossing $918,578. •Back to the Future saw a healthy increase, up $96,108 from the previous week Despite some fluctuations, Broadway remains resilient with 292,642 attendees, a 4.02% increase in total attendance compared to last season. Average paid admission rose to $124.32. People start buzzing about you…Or, maybe you first launch in a mid-market - like Chicago versus NYC. Your pathways to market are not always obvious. Some may be scary. But always remember – there are many paths that can take you to where you want to go.

Very good insight! I agree, the landscape is shifting. Adapt or die. As a TV and movie production company we can align with the streaming platforms, and with half a dozen companies reach HALF of the entire world's population. By doing so we can also control our own destiny and costs. That is alluring. The media distribution marketplace will dramatically change in the next 36 months. Is there a place for cinema, theatres, streaming, and other alternative delivery methods to co-exist? Time will tell, we all adapt, we all evolve, that is the nature of business.
