At Veritone One, we know podcasting is an ever-evolving ecosystem, and the recent news of Spotify’s contract extension with #joerogan is a clear example of just that. Spotify’s departure from their “platform-exclusive era” aligns with the continuous evolution of content meeting consumers where they are. This is no longer an audio-only medium we’re talking about—and this is a good thing, because the expansion of podcast content onto additional platforms will continue to drive the growth, opportunity to consume, and overall success of podcasting at large. We are excited to continue to craft and develop a multi-channel approach when evaluating podcast opportunities for our clients, especially with one of the biggest names in the space. If you know me, then you’ll know I’m an avid podcast listener. An addict in fact. I spend a lot of time sending podcasts that I think are relevant to my friends and colleagues in the hope they can learn something too. So, I thought I’d share a podcast a week that I have listened to and thought was brilliant. And maybe some thoughts on why. My first recommendation is Patrick O'Shaughnessy, CFA interview of Michael Ovitz from CAA on #InvestLikeTheBest Top Learnings: 1. Creativity takes time and space … but sometimes creatives might need a bit of a trigger. 2. Dream big and own the entire market. He speaks specifically about breaking down the idea that competing actors and creatives needed to have different agents. He challenged the status quo and by representing all actors had better visibility of their pipelines and dreams - and could optimise what scripts the actors received accordingly. 3. The power of branding and the colour red. Stand out and be different from the market - all the scripts had a red cover vs. the black cover of the entire market. 4. Put talent together with money and get them distribution. The similarities between tech investing and talent investing. It’s all about people. 5. Gloria Mark, a psychologist and the chancellor's professor of informatics at the University of California Irvine, studies how people interact with technology in their everyday lives and how technology affects our attention, multitasking, mood, and stress level. She studies people's behaviour in real-world settings, and she's found that our attention spans have been shrinking over the past two decades. In an interview with the American Psychological Association, she said, in 2004, the average attention span on any screen was two and a half minutes on average. Over the years, it became shorter. So around 2012, it was 75 seconds. And then, in the last five or six years, it averages about 47 seconds. After compiling all this compelling evidence, Sheetal, Nilesh, and I put our heads together and said - "What the Hell - we should have our own 'shorts'". Our reasoning was simple - We are all very comfortable in our "Shorts". The episode carries the ideal dose of knowledge and wit - for those who like a breezy listen and for those getting prepped to listen to our regular podcasts.
