Peer Appreciation Post:
Ten years of weaving in and out of the tapestry that is Entropico. From Inner West bedroom floor to Trans-Pacific operation, collaborating with talented humans across multiple disciplines as in-house creative, sometimes client and always cheerleader.
Our shared origin story has me ruminating on advice I often share with early career creatives;
- Build networks with meaning. Invest in diverse community.
- Experiment while you have the time. Collaborate when there’s nothing at stake. Guerrilla music videos, club nights, experimental zines and backyard film festivals will teach you more than a classroom or internship ever could.
- Advocate for your network, carve out influence and leverage opportunities for your trusted collaborators. They will remember this and do the same for you. Over and over again.
- Double down on authenticity, an idiosyncratic brand DNA will become your secret sauce. It’s impossible to scale imitation.
- LOVE what you do. You’re going to want to revisit that pure joy for many years to come.
Erin Moy, Harry Hunter, Simon Jackman, Olivia Ravasio, Joey Hunter, Andrew MacAlpine and team lead with innovation and integrity. Over ten years they have built a dynamic creative company laser focused on nurturing talent and building platforms, smashing canonical limitations of who can tell stories, with good humour and grace.
Entropico I’m so proud of you - Happy Birthday Baby, you’re a cool guy. Cheers from the Bad Deep milieu.
When we say 10 years of Entropico, what we really mean is:
10 years of violently early call times, one-take wonders, pre-pro as post-pro, well-deserved wrap drinks, deliverables: delivered, saying “That’s showbiz, baby” through good and bad, leaving a legacy of beautiful pictures, motion and sound.
Thank you to all who have touched any of the work we’ve helped create over this fruitful decade.
We love you.
🎉 We've hit a milestone! 🎉

While the transparency and candidness are welcome, an important question to ask is how some $37 million was spent in 1 year and with a senior leader at the helm, who ran Myntra as CEO and is an Ex-Flipkart Veteran, two fairly large companies.
Shutting down its operations less than a year after raising funds at a valuation of over $160 million is kind of dicey. The company was backed by Prosus Ventures, Alpha Wave Partner, and Accel Partners during its Series A round - all 'marquee investors' again.
Besides the named VCs, Bhavish Aggarwal, Sri Harsha Majety, Kunal Shah, Vidit Atrey, and Mekin Maheshwari also invested in the company. Surprising more so again because this isn't someone new to the game having run a fashion-focussed only platform like Myntra. Or is it a case of someone not adjusting to a small working environment?
Virgio’s thesis was that as consumer fashion tastes evolve, many are finding current market options inadequate. The startup sought to refine its design, manufacturing, and procurement procedures to cater more promptly to Gen Z and older millennials: Don't all say and do that!
Was the funding and valuation only on the basis of past pedigree and profile since there was no discernible moat built? The same happened with another Myntra CEO who quit and built a Thrasio-style company, Mensa Brands which turned a unicorn in 6 months of launch 🤯 and hasn't been in the news off late (they did raise a debt round recently)
Goes to prove the unspoken hush hush rule: relationships and pedigree play heavily when it comes to VCs investing, no matter what the startup is about or whether it has a sustainable business model 🤷♂️. Sad.

Never thought that we'd come to these crossroads in exactly a year of launch of VIRGIO
We are overwhelmed with gratitude as we reflect on the incredible journey we've shared with you over the past year. With over 100,000 passionate individuals like you, we've forged a vibrant community that has supported us at every step. Your enthusiasm, feedback, and loyalty have been instrumental in our journey, and we cannot thank you enough.
However, today marks a significant turning point. Thank you for being a part of our community, we loved being a part of your wardrobe.
I Iove when people simplify technology and explain it in clear terms... and that's precisely what Kevin Tran from Hightouch did last week at Coalesce!
In fact, if you can't explain a technology simply, it suggest one (or more!) of the following:
1: You yourself don't understand the technology well enough.
2: The technology isn't beneficial.
3: The technology is a scam.
4: You work for the secret service 😂.
We've got a lot more "explain it like I'm 5" videos coming in the next few weeks... Stay tuned!
The tools in our industry are powerful, and they shouldn't be hard to understand. We should be able to explain it to a 5 year old, and that's what Kevin Tran from Hightouch did splendidly well at Coalesce.
Kudos for bringing some retro memories into the mix #furbies
