So strategic So confident So wise
She's just 19-years-old and she won her first U.S. Open! #CocoGauff is the first American teen to win the #USopen since Serena Williams in 1999. In her victory speech she was sure to thank those who didn't believe in her. Their doubt only added gas to her fire. Clearly, Gauff is wise beyond her years 🎾🔥 She also used the moment to thank #BillieJeanKing for blazing the trail to equal prize money in tennis. #womensupportingwomen

Women’s Overseas Basketball 🏀 The explosion of popularity in women’s NCAA basketball has exposed one glaring thing: The paradox - and state - of professional basketball for female players. Unlike the men, the highest-paying basketball leagues for women are either: 1️⃣ Top Overseas leagues 2️⃣ NCAA college This is - despite the fact - that the WNBA is by far the most competitive league for women. Depending on your ambitions then, female players should be planning strategically differently than men. #overseasbasketball #basketball #basketballplayer #wnba #ncaa #fiba

Reaching out to kakamega County Governor on Revival of Mumias Sugar Company. If it were not for the opaqueness of our judicial system, the once giant mumias sugar company could have been wound up six years. This sad picture indicates that mumias sugar company SHOULD revived DIFFERENTLY. Our Miller needs a NEW BUSINESS MODEL; in order for it to produce sugar DILIGENTLY and EXCITE its CUSTOMERS. The constitution provides a window for the county government to have a visible stake in running the company. The National government does not need to relinquish its stake in the company; for the two levels of government can still work interdependently. The much hyped Leasing is an aspect of Partial Privatisation. A new business model is the only solution!
This morning, I celebrated the outstanding achievements of our Kakamega County teams in the recently concluded KSSSA games. These exceptional teams are gearing up to represent us in the upcoming National games, set to commence in Kakamega this Wednesday. In supporting their efforts, each of them, including Koyonzo High School boys rugby, Shanderema Secondary School boys football, St. Mathius Mwitoti secondary school girls volleyball, and Butere girls soccer, received a sum of Ksh. 100,000. The event was attended by the Kakamega County Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina, various County officials led by Waziri Lawrence Omuhaka, Kakamega KNUT chairman Mr. Patrick Chungani, and Principals from the respective schools.

Women's Elite Rugby (WER) has launched the first professional women’s rugby league in the U.S., set for its debut season in 2025 🇺🇸🏉 With the "Ignite the Change" campaign, WER aims to evolve the rugby landscape, providing domestic opportunities for elite athletes. 🏆 Plans include six to eight teams in the first season, with potential conversion of existing clubs to professional organizations. Rosters are expected to consist of 30 players per franchise 💪 "The consensus was that this amateur, pay-to-play model is really no longer sustainable. U.S. elite players are traveling overseas to compete, and we want to evolve the rugby landscape and create opportunities for those elite athletes to really play domestically while being compensated," said WER President Jessica Hammond-Graf, Ed.D. 📰 > https://ow.ly/n0LY50Rem7z

The commitment to elevate Basketball in the UK to unprecedented heights across the nation is indeed commendable. However, to truly capitalize on this momentum and raise awareness effectively, we must address a critical shortfall—a robust foundational support for basketball in the UK. Your observations regarding the current state of basketball infrastructure are spot on. Despite the burgeoning interest and willingness from organizations like the British Basketball Federation (BBF) to foster the sport, our foundational structures remain woefully inadequate. Conversations with young enthusiasts, like the 13-year-old aspiring to play professionally, highlight a glaring issue: a significant lack of support at the grassroots level. Schools, often the nurseries of budding talent, predominantly favor football, sidelining basketball both in terms of interest and resource allocation. This bias extends beyond school premises, reflecting in our community planning as well. The absence of accessible basketball courts, where the nearest facility requires a 45-minute travel for just an hour of play, speaks volumes about the oversight in urban and community planning. Moreover, the scarcity of qualified coaches further stifles the growth and professional grooming of potential talent. While the willingness of entities like the BBF to initiate change is a positive sign, it is imperative that we first strengthen our foundation. This involves not just creating but also actively promoting accessible basketball infrastructure in schools and local communities. Councils must be encouraged to invest in local sports facilities, ensuring that basketball courts become as commonplace as football pitches. Let's rally to build a strong foundation for basketball in the UK, ensuring that the sport receives the support it rightfully deserves at every level. Only then can we truly harness the collective strength found in unity and propel UK basketball to new heights.
