We are doing a series of screenings of NO ONE ASKED YOU next week for the Dobbs/ Roe two-year 'Overturniversary'- We reached out to folks across the country who need to screen the film for their community to gather, build morale, and help turn the tide on abortion access. Lizz Winstead and her org Abortion Access Front show folks what they can do to get involved and help be part of the change. Chris Smith at Vanity Fair highlights, AAF's work, our film, and the necessary renegade strategy using comedy and outrage to activate folks as we head to the 2024 election.

Pregnant people, their families, and communities suffer lifelong consequences from being denied the emergency abortion care they need. In Florida, Idaho, Texas, and other states around the country, pregnant people have been turned away from hospitals, unable to get the emergency care they need. Some have been forced to beg hospitals or courts for that care. Being denied care has resulted in, and will continue to result in, increased maternal health complications, and negative, long-term health effects for pregnant people, including loss of future fertility.
EMTALA saves lives. During a devastating, nationwide maternal mortality crisis, EMTALA plays a critical role in helping to stabilize pregnant people facing emergencies. Studies show at least a third of pregnancies involve ER visits, and up to 15% include potentially life-threatening conditions. But abortion bans endanger pregnant people who face medical emergencies by denying them the care they need.
We can’t defend EMTALA alone. That’s why we’re proud to be one of 27 briefs filed in defense of pregnant people nationwide. Thank you to the long list of partners who are in the fight for abortion care alongside us: https://lnkd.in/e5cGNwJD
And thank you to our law firm partner, Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC, for filing this amicus brief on behalf of more than 100 partners!
I had the honor of being interviewed by CBC's The National, this week, discussing a topic of utmost significance: reproductive freedom.
As we witness the unfolding events in the US, particularly the Supreme Court's hearing of yet another case poised to not only restrict but blatantly assail abortion access for millions of American women and individuals capable of carrying a pregnancy, I delved into the implications for Canadians.
The anti-choice rhetoric emanating from the US is permeating into Canada, as evidenced by the near passage of Bill-C311 in our own legislature. As a board member of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC), I witnessed our organization springing into immediate action, vocally denouncing this underhanded attempt to infringe upon the reproductive freedom of millions of Canadians.
The fall of Roe v. Wade serves as a stark reminder that reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy, particularly for women and those capable of pregnancy, are not guaranteed rights. We must remain vigilant and poised to take action, ready to defend and protect one another from such relentless attacks.
If you're wondering how you can contribute, here are some steps you can take: Firstly, please consider donating to reproductive justice NGOs or charities like ARCC, which relies entirely on donations to carry out its vital work.
Additionally, attending local rallies in support of women's rights and reproductive justice can make a significant impact.
Even speaking up, whether it's at your dinner table or in private conversations, is crucial. Let those around you know that treating all human beings with dignity is non-negotiable for you. Every action, big or small, matters in the fight for reproductive freedom and justice.

Olivia Rodrigo is empowering Gen Z audiences by giving out free condoms and morning-after pills in states where abortion is illegal, and we're here for it! 💙
Unfortunately, the anti-abortion crowd doesn't feel the same. Many have dubbed the singer the "high priestess of child sacrifice," showing us all just how demonized the subjects of family planning and sexual health are.
Fortunately, Gen Z and bold celebs like Olivia are being more open and outspoken about these discussions, showing people all the choices they're entitled to, even in the face of legislation that's taking away their autonomy.
Scarlett Ward, social media manager at Little Leaf, shares, "Olivia Rodrigo's actions have been largely celebrated by the Gen Z crowd with whom she is popular; a generation that displays widely broadened and liberated attitudes towards sexual health and family planning, due in no small part to the access to shared information and education readily available across social media.
Tiktok is the new Google, and this is a world where facts aren't just shared - they're deliberated and contested in an arena of stitches, reposts and shares. Outdated attitudes towards sex, sexuality and gender are stagnating, and Gen Z are set to change all of that - both online and IRL."

What are your thoughts?
Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo has given out free condoms and morning-after pills to a crowd during her concert at St. Louis, Missouri — a state where abortion is illegal except in cases of medical emergencies.
The 21-year old singer is touring the world on her GUTS tour, while also promoting her abortion-rights initiative, Fund 4 Good.

📊 Nearly two-thirds of voters believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, and a slim majority say abortion will be a major factor in their votes. Additionally, 6 in 10 voters would support a state amendment establishing a constitutional right to abortion.
🗳️ However, other findings suggest the limits of that power. While a slight majority say abortion will be a major factor in their votes, this is down from the 8 in 10 voters who prioritize the economy and inflation, and 7 in 10 who focus on the state of democracy.
🔍 Why This Matters:
The outcome of this election will shape the future of healthcare for everyone. Voting for candidates who support healthcare freedom is crucial because restrictive laws have far-reaching implications. They can lead to reduced access to essential services, worsen health disparities, and create a hostile environment for medical professionals, which in turn affects the quality of healthcare for everyone.
Ensure you vote for candidates who prioritize healthcare freedom and reproductive rights. By doing so, you help protect the autonomy and well-being of all individuals, ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare they need and deserve.

Wake Forest Law Professor Meghan Boone, an expert on reproductive rights, was recently quoted in a Vox article titled "One Texas case shows why women can’t rely on legal exceptions to abortion bans."
“It … reveals just how ineffective the ‘health and life’ exceptions to abortion bans are in practice. If doctors cannot reasonably interpret these exceptions, they will understandably refrain from providing care — even when they believe it would be the correct treatment for their patient.”

Biden-Harris 2024 Launches New Ad on MAGA Candidates’ Support for Banning Abortion Nationwide
Yesterday, Biden-Harris 2024 announced its first new ad following Wednesday’s GOP debate, during which MAGA Republican candidates argued over who had the best approach to ban abortion nationwide as part of their larger extreme, MAGA agenda. The ad, titled “These Guys,” highlights how MAGA Republicans are trying to strip away women’s rights to make their own health care decisions and how President Biden and Vice President Harris are fighting to restore Roe as law of the land. This spot will run for two weeks on digital through YouTube and Connected TV, targeted to women in battleground states.
“These Guys” is part of Team Biden-Harris’ 16-week, $25 million advertising campaign that will reach key voters in battleground states. This ad will run on digital in the following states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Do these people plan to set up armed guard stations to inspect cars that might contain pre-teen rape victims trying to minimize their trauma by not bearing a rapist's child.
Maybe this guy will require that they wear some symbol on their clothes before they can travel anywhere after being raped, so they are instantly identifiable and doctors are put on notice not to help them. Then, if the poor babes try to kill themselves, this guy can charge the parents with neglect for not protecting the fetus and maybe tear down their houses (like Israeli military does when a member of a Palestinian family commits a crime against an Israeli).
I mean there are examples of third-world dictatorship all over the world - and politicians like this taliban-like creature are emulating them.

The other day I did a Texas story about how Republicans wanted to monitor traffic and prosecute anyone helping a woman or girl to get out of the state to get an abortion. I told you there would be more of this. And here it is. The Republican Party is becoming the American Taliban. That may sound partisan, but it is not. It is just what is happening, but no one in corporate media wants to say it.
Today Florida Politics published my op-ed that calls on politicians to prioritize women's health and autonomy over their extremist political agendas.
Bottom line: I believe in women. I believe that women can make decisions that are best for their bodies and their families together with their doctors.
Florida's 6-week abortion ban is an all out assault on females in the state. We’re not just defending reproductive freedom; we're fighting for the fundamental right of women and girls to make deeply personal medical decisions without political interference. This law doesn't just restrict access to abortion; it endangers lives and worsens existing inequalities, hitting marginalized communities the hardest.
I'm running for Congress to build a more equitable society and get government working for the people again.
