Fighter Friday What If? The Proposed F-14 Super Tomcat 21 Would Have Actually Looked Like ~ A Good Read ~ 📐 The Super Tomcat 21 (ST21) would have had enhancements over the F-14D. 📐 Production of the ST21 could have been done through remanufacturing existing F-14 airframes or new-build arrangements. 📐 A combination of both options might have been used, similar to the F-14D. 📐 The last new-build Tomcat was in 1992, so the F-14 inventory was not outdated when considering the ST21. 📐 The ST21 would incorporate logical features to improve the Tomcat's strengths and address its weaknesses. 📐 These features were based on already available or mature technologies. Grumman could have started delivering ST21s as early as the mid-1990s.

The recent program pivot from the Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Package version 4 to a brand-new M1E3 Abrams illustrates the direct need for system architectures to keep up with rapidly shifting battlefield demands. The intent of M1E3 is to build a system that works for 2040 and beyond: "The war in Ukraine has highlighted a critical need for integrated protections for soldiers, built from within instead of adding on.” This is why GMS designed and built our new X9 Spider family of computing, storage, and display modules with a Distributed Computing Architecture that meets the Army’s MOSA demands with open standard Thunderbolt™ 4. When the underlying vetronics architecture is plug-and-play, the whole vehicle supports fast upgrades and rapid reconfiguration for decades to come. https://lnkd.in/guGt9QWp

Chief Operating Officer, Retired Technology Industry Executive, Federal CIO and Army Officer, and Creator & Host of Federal News Network's "A Deeper Look"
A new idea: Allow Citizens/Constituents to Nominate Technology Modernization Fund Projects…. I have one to kick it off: Integrate the military services HR systems with the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) such that retirees don’t need to manually go in with paper copies of their retirement orders to get their status updated in DMDC. Multiply $1,000 by however many military folks retire each year, and that’s your ROI!
