Project Relate is a beta Android application from Google AI that facilitates communication for individuals with non-standard speech. Update on the AI Manifesto for Assistive Technologies (AT), we are still looking for more supporters to sign up and share this manifesto with global leaders.   The importance and relevance are quite simple: people with disabilities using assistive technologies participating in the digitalized society and beyond with AT. Using AT for simple things like ‘recognizing faces with an app’ is privacy sensitive data being stored on the cloud. Using AT for speech to text, uses the cloud for data transfer and storages data to for machine learning to improve the app/tool. These might seem harmless but can lead to data risks for businesses and private individuals. Including becoming the victim of crimes, such as fraud, identity theft, etc.   AI surely can bring great opportunities for persons with disabilities, equally we have to make sure that persons with disabilities can benefit equally and without being traceable via their AT. Our instagram and facebook accounts have been disabled. It seems like an AI safety algorithm has swept up our account in error (along with a few other psychedelic related accounts), however there is no way to appeal and we're unable to open new accounts (as those keep getting disabled too). This is an appeal to anyone who can offer advice or put us in contact with someone at Meta to reverse this decision. Breaking Convention is a UK registered educational charity and have been in operation since 2011. We hold biennial academic conferences on psychedelic research and consciousness. It is not illegal, nor does it breach the terms of meta's service to talk about and provide education on psychedelics. Our event serves an important part in the academic community and not having access to meta's platforms (sadly) means that our operations are hindered.
