Please, If you have a moment, I really need some career advice. TLDR: Would it be more lucrative for me to continue trying to start a career as a VFX Compositor, or switch gears again and get some training as a Technical Artist? Some background information, I have spent the last 8 years jumping from educational program to program trying to find a career where I fit. I ended up with a Bachelors in Games, Interactive Media and Mobile Technology (a catch-all for media) with a minor in Computer Science. I know how to code several languages including C++ and python. I've learned how to use the entire adobe creative suite. I've taught myself Maya, Blender and Substance Painter. I just finished a training program for VFX compositing using Nuke. However, because I've learned so much, I'm only acceptable at any of it and I can't find any work to get me started on a career path! I tried to find work as a 3d artist, but found I couldn't compete in passion or ability with those who already do that kind of work. Then I discovered VFX Compositing. It generally pays better and it seems to fit the way I work better. I am not much of an artist, but a good craftsman and I like to make things look right, so I thought I'd be a good fit. Now I'm getting rejection after rejection, if the employers bother to reply at all. As I think on it though, I don't want to have to take my children to expensive big cities. It's important to me that I can keep my kids near family and ideally in a home, not an apartment or townhouse. Working in labor and construction all my adult life, I have never been able to provide them that yet; hence my anxiety to start towards a career that makes a decent money. I know that once I can get into a position and start working, I will show my value and will be able to really hone my abilities. A sample of some of my work is available at https://lnkd.in/guaAPbeU . With that and the information I've given, would it be worthwhile to continue shooting for a job in VFX Compositing? Would it be a better use of my acquired skillset to get even more training in something like Technical Art? Or should I just face the music and give up? I'm at my wit's end and I simply don't know what to do. Maybe I have the potential but I need to work harder, or maybe not. I don't know. Finally, I’m calling this an end. The never-ending refinement and countless hours of dedication were distilled into this personal CGI project. I might be going through the hardest phase of my life, but I’ve decided not to be too hard on myself and to prioritize my happiness. 😭Editors, are there any graphics tasks you dread doing?😭 When working on Emily in Paris in 2022, I found that the editors spent hours creating credit sequences. I created a template that saved them tons of time.⌛=$$ Figuring out how to make templates for the editors or other motion artists is like solving a puzzle. Some of these that make some people groan 😩 in the agony of boredom are my problems to solve.  I later used the techniques to create lower thirds for Roku's Honest Renovations and lower thirds for TwitchCon.
