Member firms around the world host IMPACT Day activities where Deloitte professionals spend the day volunteering. Many Deloitte member firms around the world participate in the IMPACT Day. Contrary to what the name may suggest, IMPACT Day is not just one day. In 2018, EY Ripples, their global corporate responsibility program was launched with an ambition to positively impact one billion lives by 2030. Meet Kay (he/him), senior consultant within our SAP Enterprise Solutions practice, based in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Territory of Beothuk and Mi'kmaq. Kay is one of our Regional Impact Leaders, part of a committee dedicated to organizing Impact Day, a paid day off work to volunteer in our communities across the country. One of Kay’s passions is working with students. Last year, he volunteered with Junior Achievement to deliver an ‘Economics for Success’ program at a junior high school in St. John’s. “The program focused on equipping students in grade nine with knowledge about the fundamentals of economics, such as budgeting and how to build their careers. It was interactive with a successful idea-exchange among students. I was blown away by their intellectual curiosity—conversations ranged from climate change to nanotechnology! I came out of this event with a renewed commitment to making the world a better place. It inspired me to sign up with Junior Achievement again this year!” As a Regional Impact Leader, Kay hopes to help people see the impact they can make in their community and encourage them to volunteer beyond Impact Day. “Being involved with these organizations gives us the unique opportunity to affect the lives of underserved people in our communities, help in shaping future generations, and spread positivity in our community. Volunteering is a great way to remind ourselves of the broader definition of impact.” For anyone looking to get involved, Kay shares the following advice: “It is very easy to get caught up in the everyday grind. The first step with getting involved is to make a commitment to yourself to make an impact. Thrilled to have served as a panelist, during the YWCA Metro Vancouver FOCUS@Workpanel as part of EY Canada’s Ripples initiative. EY Ripples links EY people and their skills, experience, and passions with not-for-profits and social enterprises to enhance their impact on our communities, fostering an equitable and sustainable future for all. We talked about networking in our digital age. Here are three takeaways from the discussion if you are looking a bolstering your network in 2024: ·      Listen - Listen actively, ask thoughtful questions, and show genuine interest in what others have to say. This not only demonstrates respect but also helps you learn more about your contacts. ·      Follow up - After meeting someone, don't forget to follow up. Send a personalized email expressing your pleasure in meeting them and reference specific points from your conversation. This helps solidify the connection and demonstrates your genuine interest. ·      Offer value - Networking is a two-way street. Look for ways to provide value to your contacts, whether it's sharing relevant resources, introducing them to someone in your network, or offering your expertise. The next chapter: announcing a bold new step in my career journey ✨   After an incredible eight-year adventure at Deloitte, I am humbled and exhilarated to announce my transition to Founder + Principal of CLCo, an equity and social impact consulting firm.   It's time to step into a new realm, to build on my experience, and to harness my passion and expertise for transformative impact.     For more than two decades, I've been committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. From CEO of Women of Influence to a global HR executive, I've constantly pushed boundaries. This journey has led me here, with a focus on solving for internal DEI at multiple stages of a company's growth and matching that commitment to external social impact simultaneously. The goal is to provide the "how" for companies committed to driving equitable outcomes inside and out - at the intersection of DEI and ESG.   I'm grateful for the immense experiences, great leaders at every level, and lessons learned at Deloitte—from becoming a consultant to leveraging innovation to solve complex challenges, to gaining the trust of clients also keen to break barriers. It has truly been an honor.   What's next? Well, I’m open for business!  And my website is coming soon.
