The Shanghai team at Keller and Heckman LLP reports on the latest developments in food labeling regulations as two agencies release drafts of new requirements. On June 27, 2024, China’s National Health Commission (NHC) published a draft of the Food Safety National Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods (GB 7718-xxxx). The next day, the State Administration of Market Regulation (SAMR) released draft amendments to its Measures for Supervision and Administration of Food Labeling. These key documents address significant changes in food labeling, resulting from years of coordination between NHC and SAMR to streamline responsibilities and optimize label management. Industry stakeholders should closely monitor these developments as they form the regulatory framework for labeling prepackaged foods in China. Read more details about the updated labeling and claims requirements in the article below. https://lnkd.in/eGjuNT8j #food #labeling #claims #safety

Ingredient Bans in the Candy Bowl? NCA Pushes Back ❌ The National Confectioners Association (NCA) is firing back against proposed state-level bans on certain FDA-approved food additives used in candy production! This comes after a recent industry conference highlighted these key issues, according to Confectionery Production: https://lnkd.in/gNEMrjfv The NCA argues that these bans: Disrupt the national food safety system: They believe the FDA has the expertise to ensure ingredient safety, and a patchwork of state regulations creates confusion. Lack scientific backing: The NCA emphasizes the importance of science-based decision-making when it comes to food safety regulations. The post raises some interesting questions: Should food safety regulations be determined nationally or by individual states? How can we ensure consumers have access to safe and delicious candy? Let's discuss in the comments! #candy #foodsafety #fdadrugadministration #regulation #NCA #confectioneryproduction #foodmanufacturing #CandyMFG #Confectionery

The food manufacturing industry in Ontario, Canada, is subject to a comprehensive regulatory framework designed to ensure food safety, quality, and compliance with health standards. These regulations cover a broad spectrum of activities, from the handling and processing of food to its packaging, labelling, and distribution. Key regulatory bodies and regulations governing the food manufacturing industry include: Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Health Canada Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) Ontario Ministry of Health Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) Food and Drugs Act (FDA) Provincial Offences Act (POA). If exporting to the US, then USDA regulations will also need to be complied with. Many customer also impose their own of recognised third party standards like British Retail Council (BRC) or Safe Quality Foods (SQF). These regulations require food manufacturers to adhere to strict standards of food safety and quality, including the implementation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems, proper labelling, and traceability of food products. Compliance with these regulations is essential for protecting public health and ensuring the success of food manufacturing businesses in Ontario. The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and FDA under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) have specific good manufacturing practice requirements for food manufacturers to ensure food safety and quality. if you have queries on practical approaches to compliance in your manufacturing facility, please contact Mike Pareja

Is your commercial farm, packing facility, or food processing operation ready to meet the final FSMA regulations by the January 2026 deadline? The FSMA, or Food Safety Modernization Act, was signed into law in 2011 to shift regulatory focus from reactive to proactive measures. Recently, on November 21, 2022, the FSMA 204 Rule was published, titled "Requirements for Additional Traceability Records for Certain Foods". This rule, also known as the FDA Food Traceability Final Rule, mandates companies to maintain extra records for certain foods to safeguard public health. Businesses must comply with the additional recordkeeping requirements outlined in the Federal Register Notice by January 20, 2026. If your operations involve manufacturing, processing, packing, or holding any foods on the Food Traceability List, you must maintain extra records as per the FDA guidelines. To ensure compliance, consider utilizing real-time data, tracking, and inventory management. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/exK-3KQc #fsma #fdacompliance #fdaregulations #inventorymanagement
