"Full-stack" - what does that even meeeeaaaaan? That word's so … annoying. I revert to my New York upbringing. Imagine the cliché; it ain't a thousandth. You don't wanna hear it, you got no idea. I go multilingual already. Yiddish. French. Italian, of course. Spanish. Mandarin. What we really want is a software architect. You want a software architect in any programmer role - front, back, middle, sideways, hypercube. Even in "small" roles - install freaking databases, connect them, middleware, the whole schmear. There are no small roles, only small programmers. Trust me, you want a software architect doing your database. - Lew Bloch, software that fits

A wise person said to me "the problem is anyone can code" don't believe him, press f12, and, in the window that pops open type. console.log('Hello world') press enter congratulations you just programmed a computer, you are now a developer. The skill is not in being able to code. The skill is writing manageable, testable, reliable code that someone years for now can pickup and work with. When hiring a developer, do not pay for someone who can write code, that should come for free. Pay for someone whose code is worth something. If you are a non -technical person hiring for a tech role, or getting some outsourcing code work done, please, speak with someone technical you know or hire a consultant for the day, you will save yourself tens of thousands of pounds.

When zOSOpenTools project (https://lnkd.in/gSdBsTQY) started, I encouraged many people to contribute as much as they could. I knew the project would bring a lot of open-source porting to Mainframe. They have grown faster than I could imagine and today even complex projects like GitLab-runners are available in USS. Yes, you heard that right. Now you can run a native gitlab runner in USS directly and avoid many SSH connections to run your application builds / deploys / other automation. Many thanks to open-source contributors for making this dream a reality. Mathieu Dalbin has kindly written a blog to document how to setup and run your DevOps pipelines using this native runner. https://lnkd.in/g5-MppVz Please read/like/comment on it. PS: This runner is not officially supported by IBM or other vendors, as with many of the zOSOpenTools ports. But we need your support and express your willingness to use these ports, for some companies to start offering paid support on these ports.
