It’s unfortunate that it took Kaiser being sued billions of dollars for lack of adequate mental health care to finally be forced to step up and make appropriate changes for your members. Let’s not pretend like you’re so amazing for swooping in to solve this problem when you’ve been a major contributor to it all along!

Thankfully you have an MD leading this. It still worries me a bit because people with the best of intentions and hearts often do not understand the depth of clinical knowledge needed to understand behavioral health challenges, and the risk that they incur for themselves and patients if they're ill prepared. We already have challenges finding clinical learning sites for physicians/residents/med students, Nursing Students, ARNPs and Psychology students...

This is fantastic and so needed! I wonder why Kaiser is not also investing in PMHNP's? I know many people in the state of Oregon, young and old, waiting greater than 6 months to see a mental health provider that can also manage medications. Kaiser NW refers out for this process rather than investing in their own providers. I speak from experience both as a patient and a RN in a PMHNP program.

Nothing is impossible to do if you put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude.

It’s nice that Kaiser is addressing the shortage of mental health professionals, but the scholars program does not accept enough students. I applied twice, highly qualified and have a masters degree, they always send me an email telling me that the program is full. Not sure what the problem is maybe they don’t like my last name.

I stick to the basics " if u have never walked a day in another person's shoes ...how much can you teach, solve, reconstruct when you have no clue of the way people with mental issues feel or perception life.

Thanks for your efforts - we definitely need more MH professionals in Oregon, especially those who provide care in non-English languages.

when therapists need therapists, what we need is wide scale social change
