🗓 Week 13/13 Northcoders Bootcamp: Completed 🎉 My Journey through a 13-Week Full Stack Software Development Bootcamp: 🎳 Before the bootcamp, my programming experience was limited, but a few inspiring projects sparked my interest in software development. This led me to enroll in a 13-week full-stack bootcamp with a desire for a career change and a passion for creating innovative solutions through code. 🥋 Throughout the bootcamp, "aha" moments solidified my passion for software development. Successfully integrating front-end interfaces with back-end databases was particularly rewarding. I also developed soft skills like problem-solving, time management, and effective teamwork through collaborative projects. 🔮 Now actively seeking software developer roles, I approach the job search with optimism. The bootcamp has equipped me not only with technical skills but also with the confidence and determination to tackle real-world challenges. I am excited about the opportunities ahead to make a meaningful impact through code. App groupd project - iTinerary: I am also proud to present the app my team and I have built called iTinerary, a full-stack travel planner app that takes the hassle out of planning a holiday. This app uses a chatbot to ask you specific questions about your planned trip and then organizes activities for your trip based on your holiday destination on a calendar of your trip dates. We used React Native for a seamless cross-platform experience, also using Firebase for user authentication and Firestore for a NoSQL database. Utilizing our information, we can make API requests to the Mapbox API to fetch data relevant to the user's destination and desired activities. This whole process was challenging, to say the least, but my team Keir Easterbrook, Jaswinder Bhogal, Alice Wilson, Megan Clayton-Clarke and I, learned so much throughout and really created a fantastic app! I want to say a big thank you to Northcoders, the whole team and the amazing people i met on the bootcamp. I am eternally gratefull for everything and everyone. You can learn it all. This field is too vast for anyone to know everything. Master a small slice well. 5. Coding bootcamps will get you a job. They can help, but real-world experience is more important. 6. You'll avoid office politics. Politics exists in every job, including tech. Especially tech. 7. You can't have a social life. Go out. Meet some friends. See a show. You’re not curing cancer.

Hey LinkedIn fam! 👋 I hope you are all in great spirits. Today, I stumbled upon a piece of my past that instantly transported me back to 2018, the early days of my journey in Software Engineering. It was the second semester, and truth be told, I had no clue where I was headed or what I truly wanted. Back then, a special connection, a senior developer, approached me with a proposition. He was diving into the backend, and he wanted me to tackle the frontend. I was a fish out of water, with minimal knowledge and a head full of uncertainties. But it was his unwavering trust and confidence that sparked a fire within me. I remember him saying, "I know tu kr lega" (I know you'll get it done), and those words became my guiding light. That project kickstarted my journey as a front-end developer. The learning curve was steep, and the nights were long, but the determination to live up to his belief fueled my every keystroke. And in the end, I did it! The sense of accomplishment, the rush of motivation, and yes, a bit of cash too – it all came together as the perfect recipe for the start of my journey. So, here's a little reminder for all my fellows: “ Don't worry if you're unsure of where you're headed. Keep moving forward, take those leaps of faith, and trust me, you'll find your way to excel. Embrace the challenges, cherish the victories, and never underestimate the power of believing in yourself ”. I'll share the very first course that kickstarted my journey soon. Here’s what I would do if I was trying to break into tech. 1. I’d join a bootcamp like Parsity if I wanted to learn to be a full stack. 2. But if I could choose, I’d learn a on demand skill that is NOT JavaScript related. 3. I’d start networking during the day from the start by doing Uber around where the big companies are in my city and tell everyone I give a ride too what I’m up too. 4. I’d network on LinkedIn by starting to build my projects in public and asking questions related to the issues I’m facing. Get after it. It’s still possible to land your role in tech.

I feel as if I have done the most carnal of sins and did not push any code for a week (mind you I am between jobs right now), but also had to reclaim some of my time and mental health. How many of you have been so driven to push code, any code, every single day to your repositories just so you can appear to be busy as if that grid highlighting in bright colors means you have done a tremendous amount of work? What about the hours of studying and honing a new skill? Changing my career later on to finally pursue full-stack software engineering (the very thing I worked so hard to obtain my Bachelors's in) meant my portfolios was not going to be as big or intense as those that started much younger. In fact, when I got my degree it was just a year and a couple of months after GitHub was launched. So, back then we were very much in the old software lifecycle frame of mind. There was no way in just a few short months I would have anywhere near an impressive portfolio. I have unfinished projects, don't we all, that fell along the wayside as newer project requirements were made. Will I go back and finish them? With some yes, and with some, no. Why? I like looking back at some of my code and remembering how much I struggled and how far I have come. I won't give up. However, I needed to reevaluate where my thoughts were and my motivation. So, I took a week to do non-tech things: make some jewelry, create some art, heck even play some video games. Now, I feel a bit more clear about where I feel my time is needed and how to best approach my portfolio and repositories. They are mine - not someone else's. To constantly compare will only lead me back into that horrible imposter syndrome that left me stagnant for almost 15 years.
