Every student should feel safe and free to be their authentic selves. This founding principle has guided TSS since our inception. Recent legislation has questioned this basic human right for LGBTQ+ youth in Virginia, but there are many ways a school can support LGBTQ+ students in the face of these changes. TSS strives to be inclusive and help all our students feel safe, seen, and heard by creating a sense of belonging, connectedness, support, and empowerment for each and every one of our students. Geek Intervention: Queer Representation in Cartoons: Engage clients in analyzing and discussing the impact of queer representation in geek media, such as Steven Universe or She-Ra. Encourage exploration of positive LGBTQ+ role models, relationships, and storylines. Facilitate conversations on the importance of representation for self-identity, community connection, and fostering a sense of belonging. Empower clients to celebrate and find inspiration in these diverse narratives.
