Our special places: 📍 We may leave. But we remember. I visited Tampa, Florida, over Labor Day weekend. Whenever I return to the area, I remember a different, formative time that shaped so much of the person I am now. In 2013, I moved there for a job in my former career. When I arrived from St. Louis, I lived alone and didn’t know anyone nearby. But, as a former Midwest kid in my mid-20s, I thought living in Florida sounded fun and exotic. In many ways, I grew up there. Over 3 years, I worked hard, wrote a lot, and learned even more. Frankly, I had bad hours. There was stress. My lifestyle was unhealthy at times. Still, many of my experiences there shaped my current views about the world. I lived through my first layoff. I freelanced for about a year between applying for full-time jobs. I tried to change careers but failed. On a few mornings, I walked along 1 of the shimmering beaches nearby and wondered where life was taking me. I learned about rejection. I accepted redirection. And I’m thankful for that. My life has changed so much since I left for Atlanta in 2016 to take another media job. But, when I think about my path, many of those evolutions—including my career change—happened because of the perspective I gained in Florida. Some places in our lives remain special, even if our view changes over time. #UXWriting #ContentDesign #ContentStrategy

RUN….RUN….RUN…. Stay as far away from this LA as you physically can until they address the serious failings in the children’s services department of Herefordshire council that go right to the very top!! The ‘professionals’ (I use that word loosely) higher up are selfish, egotistical and manipulative! even after accepting a mountain of failings imposed on a family they continue to make sure everything fits the narrative and agenda they have chosen so that they can continue to hide the severe magnitude of the failings and mess ups that have been and continue to be made. The children are sadly just collateral damage in their mission to hide the truth! They ignore court orders, court approved plans and abuse families that they are meant to support all while turning a blind eye to the abuse children are suffering while in their care! or they make a never ending list of excuses and reasons as to why they missed the abuse that was inflicted on the children while in placement!….There are a few SWs that are genuinely good at their job and are trying to make a difference to the failing and inadequate department within the council but they can only do so much when some of failings are happening because SWs come and go so quickly as they struggle to maintain steady staffing partly because SWs are being over worked, over stretched with extremely high case loads with not enough hours in a day to be able to adequately manage and safe guard all children in their case loads but also because serious failings are happening higher up the career ladder. Then sadly when mistakes are made, failings happen and there is evidence given to support those claims those higher up have no choice but to acknowledge and accept those claims BUT they then very quickly put the blame on the SWs that are on the ‘ground’ trying their best to do the job and working with the families which means they then are the ones that have to face the backlash from the families, those close to the families and the general public are lead to believe that the SWs are the ones to blame for the issues so they become the focus and targets of the frustration, pain and anger……but just like most things you have those that want to help and make the service better you have th other side of workers that don’t have the right intentions. For example one of the SWs in the children with disability team who is actively going behind parents backs encouraging family members to take restraining orders out on the parents even though they have had no contact with them in over 2.5years! Last time I checked if you’re having very minimal to no contact it’s not harassment? Or maybe I have it wrong which means the police officer I spoke to has it wrong as well.

DID YOU KNOW? "Starting this month a new state law takes effect that will REMOVE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS for many state government jobs. Not having a degree will no longer be a disadvantage to job seekers applying to most state government jobs. Substitute House Bill 2216, passed this last legislative session, and it removes two or four year degree requirements as the only way to demonstrate qualifications for a position unless it is required by law for an employee to perform the essential function of a classification. Don’t let not having a degree stop you from applying to a Washington state government job. When you review a job posting, look at the minimum qualifications and there should be an alternative to path to qualify other than having a degree. What other experience could help you qualify for a job? Actual work experience in the role you are applying to, internships, volunteer experience, professional or skill certification, training, transferable skills, apprenticeships, small business ownership, and consulting may also apply to meet minimum requirements for a job. Remember, you’ll have to demonstrate how that experience is relevant to the qualifications on your online application or resume. Read the job description and minimum requirements carefully. That will explain exactly how someone will qualify for the role. It will be important to provide details about the experience you are including in your application." You’d be crazy not to take that job. That’s what everyone told me after I landed a coveted summer associate job. A job that, if you played your cards right, would land you a first year associate position. Making a LOT of money. I had to agree. I would be crazy to turn the summer associate job down. And even crazier if I later turned down the first year associate position… I thought about it, talked it over with my family and friends, and realized I couldn’t find a reason not to take this job. And yet… Something inside me KNEW this wasn’t the job for me. 🍿 SPOILER ALERT - I said yes to the summer associate job. And to the first year associate job. And I shoved that nagging feeling deep into the recesses of my mind. Looking back, I can see what happened here. I relied on logic and facts to point me towards the best career choice for me. Nothing wrong with that - in theory. But when intuition tried to tell me something about myself that no amount of logic could, I ignored it. And while I have no regrets in choosing that first job. I can’t help but wonder how different my career path could have been, Had I listened to my intuition in that moment. If you’re struggling to make sense of your legal career choices, and need someone to guide you, I’d love to help out. Where are America's Top Hot Job Spots in 2024? My students in class ask which companies are hiring and where? According to the latest Wall Street Job Journal report https://lnkd.in/ekXRJ2Um Job growth has increased in the sunbelt area. New York and San Francisco job growth is slowing. So what can you do with this information? 1. Assess you skills 2. Research your target companies 3. Research jobs in these areas and see if they meet your requirements both from a professional and personal perspective. 4. Negotiate a transition that starts with remote work to a few days in person while you move. The short video shares the trend and the shift in jobs I have seen over my career. https://lnkd.in/eVEbyMTG #hiring #jobsearch #jobseekers #productmanagement #scrummasterjobs

¨Be Better Than You Were Yesterday Dedicate time to improving yourself. Read books about your industry, watch or listen to relevant career related and motivational podcasts. Plan out what you want to do to make an impact once the summer is over and it’s back to business as usual, and design a strategy to achieve these goals. Write them down and follow up on a daily basis. Focus On Your Wellness Take a break from the constant emails and work notifications and allow your mind and body to truly relax and recharge. Catch up on sleep or establish a regular sleep schedule. Feeling well-rested can significantly improve your mood and energy levels. Engage in activities that promote relaxation, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, yoga or spending time in nature. Since the weather is nice, venture outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Go on a hike, jog, run or walk to maintain mental clarity, as well as your physical health. Pursue activities you enjoy, whether it's reading, writing, listening to music, playing games or creating art. Focusing on hobbies can be a great way to de-stress and express yourself creatively. Spend quality time with friends and family.¨
