The trend of ghosting prior to layoffs needs to end. Especially when lives depend on it. 🤨 As Amir Satvat reported earlier today, Paradox Tectonic has ceased development on their much anticipated life sim: Life By You. After nothing more than a public statement, 24 developers, including my fellow Wizard Willem Delventhal are under the assumption that they have now lost their jobs. 🤔 What does this mean? 👻 Despite hitting quotas, rather than be rewarded, those impacted are now thrust into a market with over 10 THOUSAND other job seekers. 😶🌫️ Not to mention, news of said layoffs comes RIGHT after Father's day, a time which is meant to bring family's together rather than foster concern of whether or not they should start worrying about keeping the lights on. 👫 If we as a community continue to allow Companies to treat their developers this way, then eventually we will have no one left to develop in the first place. Worrying seems to not solve problems. I’d like to offer an activity to help: 1. Write down what is worrying you? 2. Document why you are feeling worried about this item. 3. Write down all of the worst case scenarios underneath this. 4. Write down what you would do if that worst case scenario happened. 5. Write down what you would do to get back out of this? 6. Repeat number 5 until you have exhausted all the ideas. 7. Take the top three things from 5-6, and take action to do them now. Keep a log of how it’s turning out, and then tackle the next ideas. Guess what, I’ll bet you will worry less about the issue at hand every time you take action. Inaction breeds worry and fear of the outcome.
