🫁 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing awareness about lung cancer and promoting early detection, prevention, and support for those affected by this disease. Lung cancer is a serious health concern, and it impacts the lives of many individuals and their families. Here are some essential points to consider during this month: 💙 Understanding Lung Cancer: Learn about the different types of lung cancer, risk factors, and the importance of early detection through screenings. 🌬️ Tobacco Awareness: Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, so let's support those looking to quit. 🔍 Early Detection: Encourage discussions about the signs and symptoms of lung cancer, as early detection can greatly improve outcomes. 👥 Support for Patients: Reach out to those affected by lung cancer, offer your support, and provide information on available resources. 🤝 Community Involvement: Get involved in lung cancer awareness events and initiatives to make a positive impact on your community. 💡 Spreading Awareness: Share educational content, stories of survival, and the latest advancements in lung cancer treatment to help raise awareness. During Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we stand together to support those facing this challenging journey, honour the memory of loved ones, and work toward a future where lung cancer is better understood, preventable, and treatable. Is 2024 the year we discover a cure for Type 1 Diabetes? While a cure in 2024 might be ambitious, the race for a Type 1 Diabetes cure continues. That's why I and a dedicated community of warriors, athletes, parents, and supporters are working tirelessly towards that goal. Would you consider joining us in the fight? My son Will was diagnosed with T1D in 2021, but you wouldn't know it if you tried to keep up with him on the soccer field. Despite T1D, Will excels in school, dominates on the field, and never lets anything slow him down. That's why I'm not slowing down, either. I owe it to him to do everything I can to ensure he can continue to live life full speed ahead. The advances in technology and treatment of T1D are truly amazing and allow kids like Will and everyone afflicted by the disease to manage it while living happy, healthy lives. JDRF International continues to support groundbreaking research that will, one day, lead us to a real cure. That's why I support JDRF and ask you to please join me. I've raised my goal this year and need your help to reach it. Please consider a gift; every dollar gets us closer to a cure for Type 1 Diabetes! Together, let's accelerate the race for a cure. https://lnkd.in/gj7CqSwi

📢FDA Updates Blood Donation Guidelines! Read more about this update here: https://lnkd.in/gUxTfEwq Exciting news from the FDA! The new guidance on blood pressure and pulse donor eligibility is here: 1️⃣ Blood center physicians can now manage donor blood pressure measurements outside specified limits via phone or off-site consultation. 📞💉 2️⃣ Healthy athletes or donors with an irregular pulse can donate without needing a physician's consultation. 🏃♂️❤️ As we update our procedures, we’re defining what it means to be a "healthy athlete" for blood donation purposes. Should it include physical attributes like strength, agility, endurance, and speed? Or mental traits like passion, discipline, competitiveness, focus, and resilience? Maybe commitment to training and skill improvement? Imagine this: A donor with a low pulse comes in. They run 4-5 times a week but don't compete in sports. Are they a healthy athlete? 🤔 Read more about this here and let me know what think about how blood centers should be defining a "healthy athlete." https://lnkd.in/gUxTfEwq

30 days out from the JDRF Kansas & Missouri Chapter One Walk in Kansas City and I'm making a personal appeal for my son, your friends, family and colleagues that live with or care for a loved one with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D.) T1D is an autoimmune disease that currently can't be cured. It is on the rise with the number effected doubling every 15 years and increasingly diagnosed in adults (nearly 50% of new diagnosis). Hunter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes nearly 9 years ago on New Year's Eve day 2014 and we had no idea what was ahead of us. Things have changed over the years. How Hunter's body reacts to food, exercise, school tests is different now than when he was first diagnosed. The way he manage has changed too. Newer insulin pumps, more accurate CGMs but T1D is relentless and ever present. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure... yet. There is promising research, but it may be years off from being fully vetted and accessible. Between now, and the day there is an accessible cure, we want research to continue to find ways to make care easier and less disruptive. The JDRF One Walk is one of the major fundraisers and a great opportunity where you can participate to help fund research that impacts the lives of millions of children, adults and families challenged by T1D every day. Here's how you can help: Join Hunter's Crew: https://lnkd.in/gP8SkvNH Buy a Hunter's Crew Tee Shirt: https://lnkd.in/gaCSa8jk Enter to win a one-of-a-kind Ford Dark Horse Mustang Convertible! https://lnkd.in/grm379pt We appreciate your support!

In 2021 our youngest son was taken in for a medical check-up. We were noticing abnormal things with Toby, namely he began wetting the bed multiple times a night, after years of being potty-trained. Add this to the fact that our boy hated being wet, in any form, this was our first and only sign that maybe something was going on in Toby's body. It seemed odd to us that we would call and book an appointment with our doctor over "bed-wetting", however, we chose diligence of pride. Our family doctor completed a routine check-up of Toby and suggested getting some bloodwork done, "just in case". Before my wife and son could make the 20km drive home, we received a phone call from the lab stating that Tobias's glucose levels were off the charts and that they wanted us to get to the Children's Hospital as soon as possible. With little to no time to pack bags, we drove off as swiftly as we could. Thanks to neighbors and family members, our other two kids were well cared for and loved as we spent the next number of days taking turns staying in the hospital and learning what a "new normal" for Toby would need to look like. Fast forward to today and we thank God that we have yet to see Toby severely sick. That being said, carb-counting and daily injections are a norm that we still have to adjust to. I wish I could say that it has gotten easier, rather I would say that we have become more comfortable in supporting our son the way he requires. In the end, Toby is the real champ. With some very simple math, we have calculated that in 2.5 years of living with a Type1 Diabetes diagnosis, Toby has had over 7,300 injections. This needle count does not include routine bloodwork that is required by his Ped's team (who is amazing by the way!). We have been told countless times that because of the incredible, advancing research that is being don (right here in Canada!), a T1 Diabetes cure is very viable in Tobias's lifetime. This is beyond exciting for our family, and families like ours who also support a loved one with T1D. This is why our family walks for a cure. This year, we would love for you to join us in the walk! If you are not able to physically be present then please consider donating to our team, "Tobi-One-Kenobi". https://lnkd.in/gCh-5gPy

Diabetes is a growing health concern that affects millions of people worldwide. It is a chronic condition that impacts the body's ability to regulate blood sugar levels. There are two main types of diabetes: • Type 1 - is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. • Type 2 - is primarily caused by lifestyle factors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, and obesity. #PoderosaLatina #SOMOS #ElevanceHealth #HispanicHeritageMonth #AmericanDiabetesAssociation #VirtualStepOutWalk #DiabetesAwareness #PublicHealth #HealthEducation
