In 2020 at the start of Izzybots, they were the first large NZ brand to see my vision & give us a go... Now 3 years on, we've helped manage every conversation they've received through social media. In mid-2015, I nearly succumbed to the blood clots that stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't breathe, and I couldn't walk. During this season, an Idea for a company was born out of the struggles I had experienced in the off-road world as an enthusiast. Here we are nine years later, seriously bringing a product to market that is light years beyond alternative options. So many times, this idea has been modified or changed, but the goal has remained the same. The problem persists even today, yet there is nothing in the market designed to solve this problem every automotive enthusiast experiences. To some degree, some experience this worse than others. The bottom line is that the automotive enthusiast world is in the stone age! There are five competitors that I know of that do not even come close to addressing these issues Off Com was designed to solve. Sitting back and expecting a solution has brought me to a level of distrust that someone else could do it better. That hasn't happened yet. Enthusiast in this world are about to get a solution to this problem and we hope that our MVP is operational for Sand Sports Supershow in September. Off Com, is coming! “Showcase Your Build!”

It's a big summer for Duplex Deli. It took a lot to get here, so as our team expands and great partners keep coming we wanted to share a little bit of the perspective on sports that has allowed us to succeed. It goes back to the beginning. For me, it was watching games with my Dad and this intense feeling that sports were cultural and powerful. Watching incredible athletic achievement was great, but what made it matter was a shared bond and something to experience - in joy or legit suffering - together. Playing sports in high school with no aspirations of a college career (due to lack of skill, to be clear) it was that same realization - this matters for the bonds, the bus rides and the community that came to watch my very mediocre self play sports. There is a cultural impact so much larger than wins or losses and if you can capture that, you can create something that transcends the game. There's more people trying to do that now but still just a handful that can get it right. Fast forward a few years from my high school days and Will Kiersky hits me up about VICE starting a sports verticals with that exact cultural frame of reference in mind. I was all in. This was long before the current landscape of off the field sports coverage being en vogue and it took a visionary like Will to figure out how to take something like that and move the market towards it. Let’s talk about strategic layoffs (aka taking a break) For most horses it's beneficial to give them time away from the mental and physical stresses associated with travelling and competing. If your annual training plan includes two transition periods you may choose to use the one in the middle of the year as an active rest break and the end of year transition as an opportunity to ‘rough them off’ completely. In either case reduce the workload and feed gradually over a period of around two weeks. There is some debate about the advantages and disadvantages of letting a horse down completely particularly if they are sound and injury free. In the days of long format eventing it was quite common for horses to have their shoes removed and be turned away between October and the beginning of January. Ultimately you will need to decide based on your own situation and the individual needs of your horse. During active rest periods a baseline of fitness can be maintained by performing workouts twice a week but at reduced intensity and duration. The benefit of this type of transition period is that bringing your horse back up to competition fitness takes less time than when starting from scratch. Unlike humans, horses lose very little fitness after a short layoff of up to a month. If your horse has been off for longer it's best to assume some loss of both fitness and strength and therefore reintroduce work gradually over a period of several weeks. It’s also worth remembering that there is potential for loss of strength in bones, tendons and ligaments after a long layoff which means they are at risk of damage if you proceed too quickly.

Over the weekend, we launched our new campaign, "We are Braves Country". We created this campaign with much intentionality and expectations for success. I will share some of our thinking over two posts. In a few days, I'll go deeper on this campaign from an overall team marketing/brand positioning perspective. For today's post, I will focus more on the business strategy behind it. The Braves are a publicly traded company. We have a fiduciary responsibility to drive value and growth for our shareholders. The marketing team is aligned with this direction. As such, we look to contribute to value and growth. As marketers, where is one area we think we will find it? Every professional team in America has a fixed geographic territory where they can market and promote their team. We have a six state territory consisting of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, and a large portion of North Carolina. For many of our fans, in fact for many of you who are reading this post, coming to Braves games from other parts of the South was and is a cherished family tradition. I love hearing those stories from people. The idea of "Braves Country" isn't just a marketing construct in the eyes of our fans and our franchise. It's a real thing. Data backs this statement up. Approximately 35% of our attendance (more than one million tickets/fans) come from outside of Metro-Atlanta. Millions more fans watch our games on Bally Sports South/Bally Sports Southeast and tune in on the 170+ stations that are part of 680 The Fan Braves Radio Network. We know we have a large regional following and the opportunity for growth. So what does this campaign look like? - More in-market, "on the ground" marketing/promotional focus in small, medium and large Southeast markets - Increased traditional and non-traditional OOH (out of home) placements - Better leverage of our media partners including our radio affiliates - Crafting partnerships that build the brand through regional commonalities and sources of pride (like our successful co-branded college programs) - Creating IP and ownable assets around the idea of "Braves Country" (such as our recently launched Braves Country Baseball/Braves Country Softball programs) How will we measure success? - Growth in audience. 35 million people live within our territory. Right now, 8.5 million of those people identify as Braves fans. We see a huge opportunity. - Increase in our RU (registered user) list with emphasis on growth from geo-targeted zip codes - Revenue generation from targeted markets in ticket sales, merchandise and the opportunity for regional sponsorships - Uptick in ratings points in key markets Importantly, we will not, nor will we ever, take our marketing eyes (insert baseball reference) off the ball in Metro-Atlanta or the City of Atlanta. We just need to refine and reframe our efforts. I'll save that overview for the next post. For now, enjoy the first spot for "We are Braves Country."

Thriving Thursdays**: JRUE HOLIDAY We’re coming up on one month, since my beloved Celtics are BACK to being THE most successful franchise ever. But I'm not here to gloat, I'm here to talk about Jrue Holiday winning 2 championships in the last 4 years. @LavelleMoton sums it up pretty spectacularly in this tweet. But my own spin is that whenever I’m on the court - especially when I’m out of rhythm, or settling in, or not sure what to do with myself (we’re talking about a no skillz req pickup league after all :) I just repeat in my head “find a way to help your team” and it gets my tuned in to the gaps unfolding and how I can fill them. Jrue Holiday has a beyond-outstanding ability to close gaps before they happen, make crunch time steals, and unselfishly, consistently, provide whatever the team needs, whatever that looks like, whether or not there’s a statistic for it. So my mentality is to *be* a Jrue Holiday, because everyone *needs* a Jrue Holiday, and I see my best self reflected in the way he works. To me this means: work hard, be humble, figure out whatever it is that needs to be done and do it, stay locked in to what your team needs, and win wherever you go. Because the real reason I’m here has very little to do with any of that. It has to do with a forever desire to see people thrive, and by extension a desire to help people thrive.
