𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒉 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒔 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒂 𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑩𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 - Jeckells The Sailmakers ⛵ Mason Curtis, 14, is continuing a 200-year family tradition by becoming the 9th generation to join one of the country’s top sailmakers.   Jeckells, based in Wroxham, has been creating sails for yachts all over the world since 1832, when fisherman William Thomas Jeckells founded the business.   Jeckells has been in family ownership since, and the family said the tradition is set to continue, with Mason, WT Jeckells 9-time great-grandson, learning the ropes at the company’s factory, over the summer holidays.   Director Chris Jeckells has been hailing him “a huge hit with staff.” Saying: “It’s been a very intentional decision to keep this a family business, and I know that means a lot to our customers.”   “I remember when I was Mason’s age being brought into the factory to hold the end of the tape measure in the school holidays, so it’s been great watching that continue.”   Next week the teenager will have to leave his post and head back to School for the start of term, but hopes to return post his GCSE’s.   Chris Jeckells said: “When I started working here in the early 70s my father told me I needed to ‘find the future’.   “Since then, I have always been looking for ways to bring in new technology, or upgrade the way we do things.   “That’s been essential to our continued success, and we’re all so proud to see Mason becoming part of the future too.” As revealed in July 2023, exclusive Family Business UK and Censuswide polling found that almost half of British consumers would prefer to buy from a family business. With the study revealing a quarter of the British Public feel the UK Government should do more to promote the family business model within policymaking.
