30 years of keeping people out of cybersecurity? Why would you celebrate that when the whole planet has been hacked so many times, no one even bothers to keep count?
For those that don't know, the CISSP cert is de facto required to "get in" to cybersecurity.
For those that still don't know, you need 5 years of provable cybersecurity experience to get the cert.
That's the Catch-22/ HR Firewall I am referring to.
This is a rather interesting question. My wife is health car provider (FNP). If she lets hers expire, she won't be able to practice. Many years of experience would not let her practice if she lost her license to....
The question would be what was the original intent of certification bodies in IT?
in the US federal government (ie: DHS, DoD, DoE, etc), an employee must have certain certification in IT in order to practice in their field.
This is a big problem in this discipline for which there is no solid framework like there is in the medical, law fields for example.
Now, I have let many certs expired. To be honest, for employment the certs have never serve to get that next placement.
I have used them to keep up with technological, phylosophical, and cultural changes taken place in my discipline.
I've mainly used them as a mental excercise, specially if I choose to re-test.
There are some reasons why one should keep them, and yet there are some on the contrary.
Lastly, I would comment from the time at Cisco under your management:
Why did we do CC, FIPS, ISO certs?
and why should companies keep renewing their SOC-2, CC-PCI etc?
👉👁️🧠Did you know the CISSP certification has earned a reputation for being one of the most esteemed credentials in the IT industry? Wishing all my students best of luck for their CISSP exams. Few tips
1. Rest one day before the exam. If you have prepared well and understood the concept one night wont make any difference.
2. Read questions twice. Eliminate two answers. Then select the best answer.
3. Do not give up after 125 questions. Continue your effort, become more diligent. The exam engine wants you to pass.
4. Watch “Why you will pass CISSP” by Kelly Handerhan on youtube early in the morning.
Best of luck and do well
