An interesting article written by Sean Hollister for The Verge on the topic of AI. During Intel Corporation's Q2 2023 earnings call, CEO Pat Gelsinger expressed a strong belief in AI, stating that the company aims to incorporate AI into all its products. Intel's upcoming consumer chip, Meteor Lake, will include a built-in neural processor for machine learning tasks, following a similar move by AMD, Apple, and Qualcomm. Previously, it was thought that only premium Ultra chips would have AI coprocessors, but Gelsinger now envisions AI being integrated into all Intel products. Despite his enthusiasm for AI, Gelsinger pointed out that AI and cloud technologies don't necessarily go hand in hand. He highlighted the increasing importance of AI at the edge and on the client-side, enabling real-time language translation, transcription, automation, content generation, and other tasks without relying on cloud services due to latency, bandwidth, and cost constraints. Gelsinger suggested that AI would be ubiquitous, even in hearing aids, and emphasized the need for Intel to find its own path in the AI space, distinct from NVIDIA's AI cloud offerings. Among them is how AI agents might communicate with each other and with us. As AI agents advance in sophistication, they could develop unique communication methods. This harks back to instances where AI agents began negotiating in ways beyond human comprehension. Moreover, it’s not unusual for an AI creator to be in the dark about how their creation came up with a solution to a problem, or how it strategized to win a game. This raises a fascinating question: in a fully AI-automated enterprise, will we understand how these super-intelligent agents achieve their goals? Will we be partners with them, or just players in their game? Work in the future is going to be supercharged with AI but perhaps a little opaque. #AI #FutureofWork
