We are having so much fun with this exhibition and all the examples that are coming in from the public. What are your thoughts on signs in public spaces? Could they be more friendly, helpful or do we just need less of them? #languageofsigns #publicrealm #sharedspaces #instructions #directions
Look closer! The built environment shapes our everyday lives. The Built Environment Trust is here to raise awareness and appreciation for the spaces we inhabit. Our current exhibition, Keep on the Grass, explores the language of signs. Drop by our Central London location and immerse yourself in nostalgia and thought provoking ideas. https://lnkd.in/eniY7iun #BuiltEnvironmentTrust #DesignMatters ➡️ Learn more in bio!

Steve’s update this week talks about national press coverage, flooding, community exhibitions, a trip to Wimbledon and pub quiz progress for the RRM team! Also a first weekly update appearance from Cate, our curator. Apologies for the quieter sound on the Wimbledon clip, it was a little breezy! We hope you enjoy, and as always if you have any questions let us know in the comments. #Museum #HenleyOnThames #WeeklyUpdate

Is it possible to break out of the scarcity mentality trap that many museums get into? It is possible. Inspiring, courageous, generous, and bold leaders like Sally Shaw MBE, Director of Firstsite, prove it every day. When you talk to her, as I have done today, it becomes very clear. It is possible to overcome structural constraints by believing in other values such as generosity, unconditional community support, trust in each other, and inviting others to share them. I love Sally's museum-cave concept. Despite the passage of time, human beings remain the same and seek similar things: to connect with others, to feel part of others, to feel respected, valued, and supported. Sally and her team make this possible because, as she says, the more you give, the more you receive and generate. This is how a museum arises from the mentality of the gift and collective generosity. They are changing the museums and the society for the better. https://firstsite.uk/

Philanthropy and Arts and Culture institutions can be powerful allies in shifting the cultural hierarchies that permeate our daily lives by addressing inequalities in who and what gets funded. To do this, we must reflect on our donor relations practices, what exhibitions are in our museums, and why small box theatre companies constantly struggle to sell out smaller productions. Read our Op-Ed: Upending Cultural Hierarchies in Arts & Culture, An Internal Assessment for Change by Monica Fernandez to learn more: https://buff.ly/3qPAyDZ.
