Too little, too late. The problem is not with asking candidates questions about Canadian experience during the interview, but with not inviting them to interview at all if their resume shows only foreign experience. In reality, newcomers are already losing out in the initial resume screening process. When I started creating content for internationals to find jobs in Sweden 3 years ago, I promised to share the most important advice that got the quickest results. It took me years to figure out all of the small cultural nuances that happen when finding a job in Sweden. And many other internationals experience the same. My hope is that the content I share helps others skip the long adjustment time and find career success as quickly as possible. They should have the tactics that work. And all the basics? I’m not sharing the 101 - there is plenty of that already out there. I’m sharing what I call ‘Cracking the Swedish Code’ or as some have called it - the CHEAT SHEET. We are skipping the long way and going right to the source of results. This means focusing on cultural differences unique only to the Swedish job market, how to understand the mindsets of Swedish hiring managers and recruiters so we can get one step ahead, and making ourselves look more competitive as international professionals instead of overqualified and underpaid.
