Assistant Professor in IT Law at Trinity College Dublin | Data protection and cybersecurity law and policy expert | Ethics advisor
Final panel of the scientific track of the Privacy Symposium. Stefan Schiffner, Meiko Jensen and Henning Klaffke discuss privacy and security in the context of applied innovative learning for vocational education. Henning Klaffke wraps the panels up by noting how the papers in the scientific track are not just about research, but also lecturing and education. We need education to spread IT-related expertise like that given by speakers to the end users, eg ICT professionals trained at vocational level. Meiko Jensen discusses the complex educational system for privacy (and security) professionals with shifting post-pandemic educational norms, as against the different needs ( business, industry or legal) and profiles (computer scientists, ethicists, lawyers, software engineers) we need. The open question is, how do we educate these profiles going forward? #privacysymposium #privacy #security #education

Students should not be forced to give up their #privacy to corporate #surveillance to get an education. #AIEthics “You don’t really get any options,” a student said. “You’re just kind of expected, if you want to pass this class or pass this test, you have to willingly give up a lot of your information and then hope that nothing happens.” “One of the most successful strategies for quelling dissent is to make people feel like they have no privacy.” "Higher education institutions should be considered data fiduciaries, charged with acting in the best interests of students when collecting and using their data." https://lnkd.in/eZgCzvKy

Keep schools safe. Protect our academic research. Provide funding to even the education playing field. Simple asks, right? Soon we will put our heads together and tackle those scary, tough issues. Today, Secretary Mayorkas held the first public meeting with the newest cadre of brilliant minds across academia, the Homeland Security Academic Partnership Council (DHS APC). I am so proud he chose me to lead the charge for this public-private partnership. I am proud of his leadership, his selection and his dedication. I have never supported a Secretary in my tenure who cares 100% about everything. His passion drives so many of us to work around the clock to ensure the right partnerships are in place…to garner the support he needs most…when he needs it most. *rolling up my sleeves* LET’S GET TO WORK COUNCIL! #executive #partnerships #nationalsecurity #advisory #council #homeland #school #safety #schoolsafety #campusSafety #hbcus #tribal #community #colleges #research #ivyleague #students #mentalhealth #physicalhealth #lawenforcement #cybersecurity #immigration #international #faculty #advice #recommendation #onenation #homelandsecurity #uscg #academy #education #safelearning #nsc #fbi #cisa #secretservice #labor #uscis #commerce #thoughtleaders #unity #collaboration #service
