"If 3 out of every 10 of your clients or prospects never questions your fees, you're probably not charging enough." That's one of the major tips offered by Richard Rosser in last month's live Live Hive Q&A on the topic of fees and charging structures 🤯 The session was a real humdinger and packed with value into what and how other independent consultants are charging. And you can watch it back now, for free. A recording of the full session is available in The Hive community when you register for a no-obligation, no-credit card needed free 30 day trial. It goes into areas such as: ✅ day rates v hourly rates v project fees ✅ how to calculate rates ✅ how and when (and when not!) to flex fees up or down ✅ value pricing and the risks of pricing deliverables ✅ productisation ✅ the value of referrals and how to get them 🗣"Quality session", said Padraig McKeon, FPRII, SCMP, Chart.PR (UK) 🗣"I took away ideas I can implement immediately", said Gemma Pettman Chart. FenTalk 1:1 - Duncan Cooper, CDO, Northern Trust Asset Servicing Duncan Cooper recently attended Fencore’s data management roundtable at Eight Club London, in collaboration with Mirador Solutions Consultancy and Investment & Wealth Management Consultants. This week we continued our conversation at the nearby City of London institution The Counting House: Why the data centric approach? It starts and ends with data. In fact, everything about financial services is driven by data. It is data that we consume, data we produce and data that we deliver to our customers. However, it has taken the investment management a long time to fully embrace this way of thinking. Too often we experience organisations who when asked to describe their operating model, simply present a system diagram? It is the old way of thinking and a legacy from a time when data was considered a dependency to a functional solution rather than a value driver. All systems come with a sell-by date. It is a question of when not if. The benefit of a data operating model rather than a system operating model is that it allows you to swap out legacy systems when technology and business requirements demand it. Consequently, we see investment managers choosing the data-centric approach and interoperability rather than building an operating model around a specific system. #datamanagement #targetoperatingmodel #investmentmanagement #fintech

Decoupling Domain Knowledge from System Design: The Key to Innovative Operational Models When explaining their operational framework, firms should illustrate the business process flow, which is determined by the services they offer to their clients, including the inputs and outputs associated with these services. Beneath this process flow, there's a crucial layer involving the 'data' utilized in these business processes. Additionally, it's beneficial to provide a systems perspective, highlighting the specific systems responsible for executing these business functions. However, a common issue arises because users, often deeply familiar with existing systems, tend to associate their understanding and vocabulary with those systems. Consequently, when soliciting feedback for enhancements aimed at increasing efficiency, responses are typically framed in the context of the existing systems. This approach can inadvertently lead to the new system mirroring the old one, as recommendations are based on users' current experiences rather than an analysis of the business workflow. It's essential to separate the knowledge of the domain and business workflow from the systems perspective when overhauling systems. Yet, it is challenging for users to detach from the systems they are accustomed to when describing the operating model. This represents a significant challenge for business/system architects in the process of designing new systems. This task is more an art than a science, relying heavily on experience. Success hinges on a deep understanding of business workflow including working with various systems and, more importantly, the domain expertise, ensuring questions are asked that challenge the status quo and open the door to innovative solutions. Business Process view using a data centric approach should be the approach for firms refining their workflow and data infrastructure.
