Over 10+ years working on events, I have seen everything. The difference between success and failure is mapping out the experience from start to finish for each staff member & guest! 👇 -> Entry & egress -> Activation planning -> Internal communications -> Customer service support -> A clearly outlined run of show -> Understanding venue operations -> Recruitment, hiring & scheduling -> Financial reporting & forecasting -> Food & Beverage service planning In short, this all boils down to Contingency Planning ✔ I remember about 5 years back, I was the Manager on Duty for a pregame event for a youth basketball group. We were not allowed to bring the kids onto the Scotiabank Arena court until all of the players had finished their warm-ups. On that night, an opposing player stayed on the court 10 minutes longer than usual, to practice free throws. The kids' experience had to be cancelled as a result... Thankfully, we had everything covered: We let the kids and parents know that this was a possibility *prior* to their arrival, in writing and again in person. Everyone walked away with merchandise and snacks to soften the blow, and were kept entertained with the Raptors mascot. We would reserve the court again for a future night out with no questions asked. Not everything went as scheduled, but we had great lines of communication between a lot of departments, and maintained a great client relationship.
