I find it both highly fascinating (and frustrating) that as children we are taught that lying is definitely not OK. Because ironically, as young girls who then become women, we are taught to NOT tell our truth - at least not fully. Specifically: we’re not encouraged to tell our truth if it’s something others don’t want to hear, or if it even remotely upsets someone else’s world. So many times over the course of my adult life, I was certain that were I to name what I was experiencing, how I was feeling, or what I actually thought, that everything would fall apart around me. Because as women, we have been culturally conditioned to: • keep our opinions to ourselves • to not be perceived as difficult • to distrust our own voice AND • to believe we’re probably making a big deal out of nothing. This week’s podcast episode of Embracing Enough is inspired by Muriel Rukeysers quote: “what would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.” I open up about what I’ve learned through this season interviewing disrupters and thinking about my own title as a disrupter. It took a good deal of my energy to think on whether to share anything on this in my podcast. If you listen you’ll hear it took ages! Given what’s going on in our world it’s crumb like though. I love to listen to podcasts to get different perspectives and insights into the lessons that others have learned through their experiences.
