When I started Propel Innovations, I had no idea there was a world of 😇 angels investing in ambitious founders. My curious self dug deep into that world. I began connecting with people who are angel investors or in VC. I became “Inspector Gadget”.🕵🏽♀️ I discovered: I wouldn’t qualify as a business providing a service. ❌ The BTS (behind-the-scenes) hustle of founders seeking funding 💰. The funding gap/access (0.03%) for ambitious founders who look like 💁🏽♀️. And, Canada’s 🇨🇦 growing Black-owned VCs. But, Australia 🇦🇺 never ceases to surprise me. As someone (even as a Canadian) who has (and still) struggled to achieve my ambitious dreams in Australia: ❓How does Australia expect to bring more skilled migrants in tech and grow a tech ecosystem when the current ones struggle for employment with their visa status? ❓How well equipped does the startup ecosystem (comprising of angels and VCs) understand the barriers of migration? ❓How many founders have left Australia to grow their businesses elsewhere (I’ve met these founders) where migration policies and government subsidies are making it way more attractive to build at an early stage than in Australia? Earlier this year, I decided I’d become part of the change and joined Startmate’s First Believers program to continue educating myself in angel investing. That’s how I met Sean Hua. A champion, a sponsor and a budding angel investor! In his podcast, I speak openly and truthfully about the correlation between migration and business in Australia 🇦🇺.
