It's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of interviews, calls, and emails, but it's crucial to take care of ourselves and stay on top of our game. I receive a lot of messages from people who want to work at Mindfield in a talent acquisition role. They want to know what we are looking for in a recruiter and what I would suggest for them to work on in terms of their skills. The answer to that question has certainly changed over time. When we think about today's talent acquisition specialist, they've got to have a great handle on technology. They're up to speed on on the key tools and maybe even testing new ideas and new concepts. Another thing that I've really started to value is when recruiters build their own personal brand. You've got incredible social media platforms like LinkedIn, where you can start sharing content and engaging. Being consistent with how you build your brand on these platforms can have a huge impact on your career and your effectiveness as a recruiter. We're also looking for individuals that really love the idea of helping people. That's what recruiters do — we get to impact people's lives substantially, and it's not something that we take lightly. Finally, a little bit of grit doesn’t hurt. Many of our greatest hires have come from people following up or reconnecting with us when they were ready to make a move to Mindfield. Those are things I look for, so take this advice on board if you want. And watch this space, because I expect that more jobs will be opening up this Spring, both with us and across the talent acquisition industry.

We asked our Hiring Manager about her early experiences with talent acquisition, and here’s what she had to say: "I still remember the first time I was tasked with hiring for our team. Walking in, I thought, 'How hard could it be?' At first glance, the process seemed clear-cut: post the job, interview some candidates, and pick the best one. But the reality quickly proved far more intricate. The avalanche of applications was my first surprise. Sifting through hundreds of resumes felt like navigating a maze. Each individual, with their unique experiences and skills, presented a distinct story. It became evident that merely selecting based on paper qualifications wouldn't cut it. At times, I found myself wishing for tools that could automate some of these initial screening processes, ensuring we didn't miss out on potential stars hidden within the vast pool. Then there were the interviews. What I initially believed would be straightforward conversations turned into nuanced evaluations of words, emotions, and motivations. Ensuring that each interview remained fair and unbiased was a lesson in itself. The post-interview phase, with its weighty decisions, brought its own set of challenges. Every choice was impactful, not just about filling a spot but sculpting the team's future dynamics. Reflecting on those early days, the hiring process taught me patience, the harmony of intuition and logic, and the deep understanding that every applicant is more than just a resume. The journey made me appreciate the blend of human touch and the potential for automation in recruitment. While it might've seemed deceptively simple at first, it transformed into one of the most enlightening experiences of my professional life.”
