June was chosen as Pride Month to pay respect to the June 28, 1969 - July 03, 1969 protests at Stonewall. The first Pride Month was celebrated one year later in June of 1970. This is a month of celebration - a month dedicated to uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, celebrating the culture & supporting the rights of those in the community. "When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free."

LGBTQ+ History Month traces its origins back to the National Coming Out Day, which was first observed on October 11th, 1988. It was initiated by activists Robert Eichberg and Jean O'Leary as a day for people to come out as LGBTQ+ and allies, creating a safe space for visibility and acceptance. Throughout history, LGBTQ+ individuals have faced discrimination, persecution, and marginalization. However, their resilience and bravery have paved the way for progress. From the Stonewall Riots in 1969, which sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, to the Supreme Court's legalization of same-sex marriage in 2015, there's a rich tapestry of milestones that have brought us closer to equality. As we celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month, let's remember that the fight for equality continues. Support and allyship are crucial, and together, we can work towards a world where everyone can live authentically, free from discrimination and prejudice.

This month, we stand proud and united to commemorate Pride Month, a celebration of love, diversity, acceptance, and self-expression. This is not just a time to acknowledge the struggles and victories of the LGBTQ+ community but also to reflect on the importance of creating a more inclusive and empathetic society. As we celebrate Pride, let us also remember the importance of allyship. Being an ally means supporting and standing up for the rights of those who identify as LGBTQ+. It means creating safe spaces at work and in our communities where everyone can be their authentic selves. It requires constant learning, understanding, and committing to equality and justice. This Pride month—and all year round—let's strive to spread love, promote inclusivity, and uplift each other. Because when one of us succeeds, we all do. How are you celebrating Pride month and promoting inclusivity in your community? #PrideMonth #Inclusivity #Allyship

Does #PrideMonth help raise enough awareness about LBGTQ+ issues? 69% of the readers of our publisher Yahoo said ‘No’ and we also agree that waving the rainbow flag just for one month a year is definitely not enough. Is it important to dedicate an entire month to the achievements and challenges of the LGBTQ+ community? Yes. Is it equally important to address these things the rest of the year? Also yes. LGBTQ+ issues go beyond Pride Month. Because as we see in the results of the surveys, the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ people are still not a given and in many people’s opinion are once again under threat. It is therefore important to show awareness and support beyond Pride Month. Because in reality, every month is Pride Month.

Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Dedicated to Uplifting Underserved Communities and Individuals |Spirit aligned in redefining purpose to make life changing impacts
Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. Given what we know about who is struggling the most, these organizations have an opportunity to center BIPOC young adults by being culturally responsive, trauma informed, and offering voice and choice to young people.” Maruka Rivers, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation How is your credit union being an ally? June is Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 For the month of June, we'll have some weekly LGBTQ+ Housing facts for you. The LGBTQ+ community tends to be significantly younger than the non-LGBTQ+ population. Specifically, 52% of individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ are under 35 years old, while only 23% of those identifying as straight and cisgender fall into the same age group. These age disparities account for roughly half of the difference in homeownership rates between LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ individuals, as younger people are generally less likely to own homes compared to older individuals.
