My Apprenticeship Story Maddison Gallatley – Apprentice Vehicle Technician RRG Toyota Bolton (Part 1) #NAW2024 #MyApprenticeshipStory #SkillsForLife #Auto30Club Julia Muir Automotive 30% Club The RRG Group Sarah Cooney - Chartered MCIPD Gavin Malone Toyota and Lexus Best Employer in Town BEIT "Initially, I went to College after High School and started with A-levels, but after a couple of months I was certain that it wasn’t the correct decision for me. I didn't enjoy it and I struggled to learn when I was sitting at a desk for hours of the day, multiple days a week. After that, I did a Level 2 BTEC in Motor Vehicle before coming to RRG Toyota Bolton. I chose the apprenticeship route because I felt it was the best way to learn the skills that I needed to become a Vehicle Technician. By actually being within the environment daily, rather than sitting in a classroom trying to learn it through pictures, videos and words on a screen. The influence of that choice was mainly my own, my family would have supported me with any decision I made, as long as it was what I wanted to do. In High School, my favourite subjects were Maths and Science, in particular Physics. I think the main reason for that is because they have rules and can only ever have one set answer, you will be right or wrong. Compared to English, which is subjective when it comes to the answers you give. I also loved Physics because learning why things are the way they are, or why certain things happen the way they do, is the most interesting thing to me. It’s a big part of why I love cars and working on them. Understanding how all aspects of a vehicle come together to make it work is amazing. For my apprenticeship course, if you achieved a C/5 or higher in Maths and English Language at High School or College, then that was all that was necessary. However, even if you hadn't achieved them yet, ProVQ allows you to take whichever one, or both if needed, alongside the apprenticeship scheme. For me, because I had already done a Level 2 course in College, a part of that was to complete a 2 week Work Experience in a garage, and I was lucky enough to get into RRG Toyota Bolton for my work experience. Once I completed the college course, I then applied to a multitude of garages, independent and dealerships. Doing so, I came across ProVQ during some of the recruitment processes with ProVQ, I had to do some entry assessments; English, Maths and a technical one."

My Apprenticeship Story Maddison Gallatley – Apprentice Vehicle Technician RRG Toyota Bolton (Part 2) #NAW2024 #MyApprenticeshipStory #SkillsForLife #Auto30Club Julia Muir Automotive 30% Club The RRG Group Sarah Cooney - Chartered MCIPD Gavin Malone Toyota and Lexus Best Employer in Town BEIT “There were also some questions they asked me in an interview, such as why I wanted to be a Vehicle Technician and what got me into the trade. Once I was successful with that part, ProVQ then did the rest of finding me an apprenticeship somewhere, all I had to do was wait for a phone call. Initially, I actually got my first call from RRG Lexus Bolton, which I went through the process of an interview and a 3 day work trial, which I was successful in. However, at the end, they told me that RRG Toyota Bolton had a space open up for an apprentice, and since I had already worked there for 2 weeks and knew people and was comfortable, they gave me the option to do my apprenticeship at RRG Toyota Bolton instead. This all took course over a few months from about April - July. Personally for me, I did have to overcome some personal challenges. Being in a fast-paced workshop with new people was an experience I had to get use to. Working on customers' vehicles, and knowing that if I did something wrong, it could potentially put someone's life in danger. It can take a large amount of courage and self-confidence to do this job, and it definitely helps to have such good work colleagues around you. They understand that mistakes will happen, as long as you own up to them and take responsibility. Everyone is still learning new things every day, you just have to remember that you won't be perfect at first, and that is perfectly okay. My typical day starts with my morning routine/duties, so that involves emptying all the bins in the workshop, removing any waste tyres to the storage area, recycling the oil/fuel filters, plastics, and scrap metal. I also drain the oil drainers each morning. Once those tasks are done, I will usually spend the rest of the day either helping the technicians in the workshop with a job, such as servicing or brakes. And if there is no one available to help, I will clean up in the workshop, whether that be sweeping, mopping, organising things. I also take one hour a day to spend on specific training, part of the apprenticeship scheme I'm on, I must complete online learning, so I usually do so for an hour a day. My training consists of a few aspects. The main part is my training blocks that I attend. These occur every couple of months. I go down to the ProVQ Centre for a week and the block will be about a certain subject, whether it be suspension or engine mechanical. We have tests we do whilst we are there, alongside with practical tasks in the workshop. When I'm at work, I have online learning that I have to complete, as well as task sheets to complete and do a detailed write up on."

🌟 Aaron's journey from college to a thriving 8-year career with Trust Ford is incredibly inspiring, especially during National Apprenticeship Week! It beautifully highlights the opportunities and growth apprenticeships can offer. This story is a guiding light for those considering this impactful career route. 🚗 #NAW2024 #DMCApprenticeTakeover #DriveMyCareer
Towards the end of my first year at college studying a Level 3 in Vehicle maintenance I decided I didn’t want to progress on to the second year but move in to the motor trade and after speaking to my tutors an apprenticeship seemed like the best route to take. After mulling it through and talking to my parents I started to look on the gov website, I saw Ford were looking for a Parts apprentice and this seemed like a great fit for me because it was local and I did have some experience in the parts world. I applied and within a few days was asked attend a meeting with Skillnet (the training provider) which was merely for me to understand what the apprenticeship would entail and discuss what qualifications I had and what was needed. I had already got my GCSE in English and Math’s at school but my BTEC in IT wasn’t recognized so would need to redo that as part of the apprenticeship if I was successful. Shortly after I was asked in for an interview with Ford, this was quite nerve racking as it was my first experience of an interview but they were very friendly which soon put me at ease. I was offered the apprenticeship straight away and it was planned that I would see my college year out and start as soon as I had completed it but, in the meantime, have my induction day with the company. It was a 3 year apprenticeship and at the end of it I would know the department inside out gaining a Level 3 in Vehicle Parts which was built up of 26 modules looking at all aspects of parts from housekeeping right through to GDPR. I would start in the warehouse, move through to admin and finally telesales. All my colleagues were incredibly supportive from day one and if I ever I was struggling with a certain task or write up they were on hand to help, they showed genuine interest in seeing me succeed which was a great feeling! I was called and visited regularly by my tutor who made sure I was on track with all of my training and coursework and if there were any concerns they were resolved. The thing that most enjoyed about being an apprentice was learning a whole range of skills in all the different areas that makes up the parts department. Being in a busy working environment and having a very supportive team around me helped me to grow in confidence to, not just inside work but outside too. The apprenticeship was a brilliant foundation for me to grow and discover myself and set a path to a very exciting career with Trust Ford, especially in parts as I have been there for over 8 years, for 4 of those years I have been in a supervisor role and I am very proud of how far I have progressed. Electric vehicle owners can look forward to more choice when it comes to servicing their cars following legislative changes aimed at boosting the number of apprentices able to do the work. The Federal Government has removed the requirement that businesses training apprentices under the New Energy Apprenticeships Program must do 80 per cent of their work on electric cars, despite the low uptake of EVs in Australia. The changes take effect from July 1, opening the doors for more mechanics to train in EV repairs and maintenance with a $10,000 boost from the apprenticeships scheme. https://lnkd.in/gynPNptU . #EV #EVmechanics #apprenticeships #EVfinance #newenergyapprecticeshipsprogram

What's next? Volkswagen Group encourages school-leavers to explore range of opportunities As students across the UK decide on their next steps based on recent exam results, Volkswagen Group UK Ltd is encouraging more people to consider the wide variety of roles available in the automotive industry. Whether you're looking for an apprenticeship, your first full time role, or an opportunity to practise new professional skills, there's something for everyone. While the number of apprentices starting courses in the UK has still not returned to pre-pandemic levels, there has been an increase in those under the age of 19 starting apprenticeships, and Volkswagen Group UK - which comprises the Audi UK, SEAT UK, CUPRA UK, Škoda UK, @Volkswagen Passenger Cars and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK brands - has seen a rise in the number of new recruits, with over 1,000 currently in training. Apprenticeships at Volkswagen Group UK offer exciting and varied roles in an industry undergoing a transformation in technology and the way it brings vehicles to market. Young workers can opt for apprenticeships as a Service Technician, Parts Advisor, Service Advisor or Paint and Body Technician. The programmes can be tailored specifically to help apprentices develop and hone their skills, using both practical and theoretical learning in the brand’s dealerships, as well as at the Volkswagen Group’s National Learning Centre in Milton Keynes. Aspiring apprentices require a minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) Grades 9-4 (A-C) in English, Maths and Science (Service/Paint &Body Technician), or GCSE (or equivalent) grades 9-4(A-C) in English, Maths and one other subject for the Service or Parts Advisor roles, with applications open all year round. Many other non-apprenticeship roles are available within the network, and now easier to see all in one place thanks to the launch of a new portal. Helen Mirley, Head of Retailer Learning Services at Volkswagen Group UK, commented: "At this time of year, many people leaving education look for new and exciting opportunities, whether that's post-GCSE or post-further education. There are so many different options, and the automotive industry offers a wealth of careers. Perceptions of workshops and garages are still very outdated, so we would encourage people to get in touch to see what roles are available and what working life in automotive is really like. We have a variety of vacancies which can all lead to a career in an exciting, evolving organisation." Max Bumpous is celebrating his one year anniversary with Ozark this month! 2024 also starts an exciting chapter for Max as he enters into our Ozark Apprentice Program. Max is eager to learn everything he can about our trucks and how to fix them when they need any kind of repairs. What's the Ozark Apprentice Program you ask? It's the brainchild of our VP of Maintenance, Wayne Skinner and our Technical Trainer, Dewey Bishop who oversees the 5-phase program where apprentice technicians gain hands-on experience and competencies on all aspects of fleet maintenance. We have several different types of shops on the Memphis yard that work on everything from decals to tires to body work. This program serves as a bridge for those who have been through an accredited diesel program, but are looking for more hands-on experience. Why did we create this program? We asked Wayne, who said, "The number of technicians entering the industry has been reducing over the last couple of decades, and a recent stat I read was that only *one* technician is entering the profession for every 2.5 technicians retiring or leaving the industry - this reality has created a challenge for all fleets and businesses who employ skilled technicians." In an effort to continue hiring techs with all skill levels, this program was created to provide skills for those willing to learn. Apprentices have tasks that must be documented and signed off on in order to progress in the program. New apprentices receive a toolbox and are rewarded with increased hourly pay and additional tools as they progress through the program. Congratulations Max on taking this big step in your career with Ozark! #shoptalk #dieseltechs #apprenticeship #trucking #truckingindustry #truckinglife #transportation #technicians #anniversary

We're halfway through our employee spotlights for #NationalApprenticeshipWeek and today, we're meeting Zachary Corcoran who joined us through Ford's Higher Apprenticeship Scheme 10+ years ago and is now an Environmental Test Lab Supervisor. 👨🔬🌎 ✍️ Why I chose the apprenticeship route: "I was applying for universities through college but was never really convinced that following through with full-time education was the right choice for me. I began searching for alternative options and found the Ford apprenticeship program. The ability to work and study, amongst other benefits, was an enticing prospect; to achieve a degree whilst building up a career in a well-known company became my focus." 👥 Skills gained in my apprenticeship that have furthered my career: "One of the most important skills picked up across the program was how to work effectively as part of a team. It cannot be understated how valuable a cohesive, efficient team is in delivering quality work. Developing networking and positive communication skills, not just in local teams but cross-functionally, has served me well over the years and has netted me a large network of cross-functional colleagues and friends who help and support one another." 🥼 An example of a time in my career where my apprenticeship proved valuable: "When working in the Environmental Test Lab as a facility engineer, we experienced some issues with a business over on Southfields estate relating to vibration and noise, which was, at the time, not explainable. Having worked with the Powertrain NVH team during my apprenticeship, I still had connections within the team whom I reached out to for help and support, and they provided both equipment and knowledge to investigate the root cause of the issue as well as guidance towards a long-term solution. When all was said and done, the noise issue had been resolved and the business in Southfields were satisfied with the outcome." Zach is one of many Ford employees to embark on an apprenticeship that launched his career. If you are considering doing the same, you can learn more about Ford's Higher Apprenticeship Scheme here: https://lnkd.in/eAb4vYhJ #NAW2024 #SkillsForLife

Yesterday was a Terrific Tuesday‼️ Representatives from hago Automotive came to visit with the CCR classes and set up for a Lunch and Learn so our students could talk to them about the apprenticeship opportunities hago offers. Amy Barnes, HR Manager, Nils Mellenthin, Tool & Die Manager, Theresa Hentshel, intern from Germany, and ACHS’ own AJ Robbins, Tool & Die Apprentice, shared a wealth of knowledge with the students, and by the time they finished, my hago tour sign-up sheet for the September 19th trip was full. I try to limit tours to ten students, but added a couple of more because of the great interest. If you are interested in learning more about hago’s apprenticeship model and touring the facility, stop by, and I can set up a second tour. Apprenticeships are offered in Industrial Maintenance, Tool & Die, Logistics, and Quality, so whether you like working with your hands and fixing things or working on computers and programming things, there is something for you at hago. #ACHS #ASD #hagoautomotive #CCR #advancedmanufacturing #apprenticeships #skilledtrades #trpdd #AccelerateMS #Ascentto55 #careercoach

#HEINZMANNInside - Today we welcomed nine talented young people to start their training at our Headquarters in Schönau in the Black Forest. "This year, we were once again able to successfully fill our many apprenticeship positions," explained Marc Rolka, our Human Resources Manager. "We will train three industrial clerks, two industrial mechanics, one mechatronics technician, one electronics technician for industrial engineering as well as, for the first time, one IT specialist and one student in the field of media design. Our trainers are looking forward to accompanying our new talents on their way to a successful apprenticeship." Our Management and our dedicated Team of Trainers warmly welcomed the new trainees this morning. The day began with an inspiring company presentation by our Managing Director Markus Gromer. After a joint second breakfast, the "newcomers" made their first experiences during an informative tour of the company, during which the division manager gave them insights into the work processes at HEINZMANN. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to get to know their future colleagues and their training workshop or departments. In the afternoon, we duly celebrated the successful start to the new training round in the picturesque Gurgelgrillhütte in Schönau. "At HEINZMANN, we consider well-trained, motivated employees to be our most valuable asset. Their commitment enables us to develop and produce systems and products to operate industrial combustion engines with reduced emissions, for example, by operating them with alternative fuels. We can also contribute to the expansion of sustainable mobility with innovative solutions in the field of electric drive systems. To this end, we want to invest in young talents, support them individually and offer long-term career prospects that go beyond their training or studies," emphasises Markus Gromer. Spread over the training period, a total of 16 trainees and two dual students now complete their training at HEINZMANN. In addition, one to five students from various universities are regularly supervised for practical semesters and theses. Interested in an apprenticeship in 2024?
