🔺Certified AI Consultant 🏆 Award-Winning Social Media Educator & Author🔺Snr Lecturer, UniSC 🔺Co-Founder, Dharana Digital
After completing 100 interviews with University of the Sunshine Coast grads who studied social media, today, I finally shared our research findings at the HERDSA Higher Education Research Society of Australasia 2024 conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Representing the School of Business and Creative Industries, (and presenting on behalf of my co-author Dr Krisztina Morris), I provided our results to the following research questions: 1. What did grads learn at uni that was beneficial to their career? 2. What didn't grads learn at uni but needed in their career? And 3. What advice would grads give to current students to excel in their transition from uni to the workplace? What were the results? 1. Grads found working with real clients, practical skill development, group work and gaining time management skills most beneficial. 2. Digital advertising, networking, and social media analytics were skills grads said they needed most plus requiring greater confidence was a key theme. And, 3. Grads advised current students to do internships, lean into group work, to keep learning and to believe in themselves more. This was such a fun and valuable research study and we have used the results to keep improving our social media courses at UniSC. Thank you to the 100 grads who participated. It was wonderful reconnecting with you all. Also, thank you to Dr Lisa Harrison for being my photographer today. 🙂 #socialmedia #highereducation #highered #lifeatunisc

Yesterday marked the beginning of my second quarter of graduate school! As the new year and new quarter begin, it’s vital to reflect on what I’ve learned and how I’ve grown through this program thus far. Here are my biggest takeaways from Q1: 1. It’s okay to PIVOT - When I applied to Medill, I had set aspirations of being on camera and the hopes of being a sports reporter. Although those dreams still exist, the past few months have been influential in altering what my goals post-graduation are. After my internship at NFL Films and taking Craig Duff's Foundations of Video class, production and documentaries have been calling my name. I’ve decided that producing is an occupation I’d like to pursue post-graduation and tell stories through that medium. This change can be quite scary because next quarter I’ll be applying for full-time jobs but I have to remember that everything happens for a reason. You don’t have to be attached to only one occupation, go for everything!! 2. The power of FRIENDSHIP & CONVERSATION - I’ve met some amazing people and developed friendships that I hope to cultivate long-term. As a result of an amazing conversation with a classmate of mine, I discovered the moving story of his childhood. As a result, he was the subject of my final project in Foundations of Video where I developed a profile story and received an A. (STAY TUNED! I’ll be posting it soon) 3. The power of media & importance of CREDIBILITY - Being a journalist is an underrated occupation. This past quarter showed me the effort, time, and patience it takes to develop a fair and honest story. In a society where clicks are more important than credibility, now more than ever we need journalists who value credibility. Media is so powerful and can influence the subconscious thoughts of millions of people. Let’s be intentional about pushing forward unbiased and truthful narratives. I’m so grateful to my professors for their guidance and knowledge this past quarter. Q2, here I come!

Great article from Farah
Digital Communications Assistant @ Bradford 2025 I Channel 4 Content Creative I University of Leeds Graduate
Super proud to share the column I wrote for Telegraph & Argus (Bradford) , in which I talk a bit about my career history and how Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture has aided my personal and professional development! 🥰 My life changed from the moment I was offered a place on Channel 4 Content Creatives. I've received countless creative opportunities that I only dreamt of when I was freshly graduated. More importantly, my every day experience feels so much more satisfying because I'm working a job that I enjoy and one that is making me stronger every day. I am so excited and grateful to be in a position where I can take a *new* course in my career - towards the digital media industry- because of the skills and experience that I've gained on this programme! https://lnkd.in/eiEQTaxg

In my position, I am often called to discuss various topics, sometimes about education. Education is a subject I particularly care about because I have a teenage daughter, and I try to help her understand how to decide what are the best steps for her future life. Recently, a very good friend of hers decided to drop studies after college and not go to university because he believed a university degree would not change his life. She wanted me to talk to him, and I said that it was not my duty but his family's. I can say what I think if asked. Then she asked me what I think, and this is what I want to share with you and all students out there. In life, it's not important what you do, but the reasons why you do it. If you are going to university thinking that the degree will change your life, sorry for you, but you should reset your expectations. No one will give you a job because you have a degree; everyone else who applied for that position has a degree. It was a minimum criterion to apply. There is no entitlement; you cannot think you will have a management position because you have a degree and skip all the internships in a company. And yes, there is still someone without a degree who will be your boss, telling you what to do. So why bother studying another five years when a 15-year-old nerd created an app and bought a 2 million dollar villa in Miami? The purpose, that's why. You shouldn't get a degree thinking it will change your life; you should get a degree thinking it will change someone else's life. (read it again). With your research, your blueprinting, your ability as a surgeon, or your dialectic as a lawyer, you can change people's lives. Millions of graduates are doing a job that is unrelated to their studies, and only a few succeeded in their field. Those are the ones who believed that their degree would have changed someone else's life. So, kiddos, get your priorities straight. #massimobrebbia #education #leadershipdevelopment
