ThrillSeeker's YouTube channel is awesome for VR review content. His latest video takes it up a notch by describing VR design principles. Highly recommended watching for people working in this space. Signifier: Perceptible cues that designers include in interfaces so users can easily discover what to do. A door handle offers signifiers based on its design: - A vertical bar handle suggests pulling the door to open. - A flat plate suggests pushing the door to open. - A sliding door handle suggests sliding the door sideways. The same principles need to be applied when creating a door in VR. It seems obvious, but for many developers the excitement of creating unlimited possibilities in VR means that it can be complicated for the user to navigate the space. I stumbled upon this insightful video on VR design challenges and highly recommend spending 20 minutes to watch it. It not only highlights key VR issues but also provides a living history of basic design principles through excellent examples. My favorite takeaway is how the greatest VR problem - unintuitive design, mirrors a universal digital issue: poor design makes us feel inadequate and question our abilities. "Good design is good communication!" - Ironically, some of the most crucial VR problems are common UX issues we still face in many interfaces. While VR is still emerging, interacting with interfaces on other devices shouldn't leave us feeling incompetent. https://lnkd.in/dSSmnw2A

One ‘step’ closer to the matrix! Omni-directional movement for VR! Disney dropped this awesome technology recently, and I had to bring it up. Look how cool it is! Everyone has been trying to figure out the best way to create realistic movement in VR, and this is better than anything else we've seen so far. Certainly better than Sony's patented foot pedal concept. 🤣 You could fill a small floor space with these mats, and you'd have effectively infinite space to roam around in VR. Looks like we're getting closer and closer to proper VR motion! This is the second-best option after owning a gigantic empty warehouse! 🤣 If you're interested in VR applications that can utilise awesome technology like this, connect with me or click the link below. https://simfinity.io/ #VirtualReality #VR #Technology

Now this is a very cool article which gets at the heart of the challenges in designing solutions in AR/VR. It looks at one of the first things people might have to do when using a VR application ... entering text ... which can be a tad cumbersome at times. https://lnkd.in/e3PTxFsG
