Happy Monday! This one is for founders (most PR folks know better): Asking reporters "can you please feature our product/help us out" is the quickest way to guarantee 1) no response 2) no coverage Please do some basic homework to understand how journalism works

Depends on your relationship with the reporter.

You need a story to tell or you are sunk. It’s not about doing favors unless the favor is providing the reporter with a story. Your product will get mentioned organically if the story is compelling. And the sooner you tell your boss what the deal is the better off you will be.

PR person here. It’s Incredible (and not in a good way) that otherwise functional adults still think this tactic can work. It’s right up there with “can you make sure to get all the reporter’s questions upfront and let them know that we need full editorial control of the article before we’ll agree to an interview.”
