Stanford Law alum Jesse Lazarus, JD '22, wrote an article, "Dismantling Roadblocks to a Sustainable Transition," for the Environmental Law Institute's environmental law journal, the Environmental Law Reporter. The article focuses on identifying and proposing solutions to some of the most critical legal and policy obstacles facing sustainability-focused startup businesses. Lazarus' article seeks to fill a gap in the academic literature on this topic, and employs primary research, including interviews, surveys, and focus groups with senior law firm partners experienced in advising green startups, senior pro bono counsel and staff, chief executive officers of early-stage green startups, and senior staff at nonprofit legal aid groups. Some important reading
Our book is almost out! My chapter, Environmental Justice before U.S. Courts with Abigail André sits aside insightful pieces from co-editor Michael Gerrard, John Dernbach, Cale Jaffe, as well as European colleagues -- including professors, practitioners, and judges -- to offer a comparative analysis on environmental litigation. Our pre-print abstract is here https://lnkd.in/grC2yqMU and I greatly look forward to sharing the link when the full text is available. This project would not be possible without the vision and leadership of Giovanni Antonelli, and I'm grateful he brought this group of authors together. #environmentallaw #environmentaljustice #litigation #remedies #constitutionallaw #commonlaw #comparativelaw #internationalenvironmentallaw Georgetown University Law Center Georgetown Law Clinical Programs

🌍 Landmark ECtHR Judgment Highlights Climate Change as a Human Rights Issue 🌍 In a recent groundbreaking judgement, the ECtHR has set a precedent in the case of Verein KlimaSeniorinnen Schweiz and Others v. Switzerland, underscoring the critical intersection of climate change and human rights. 🏔️⚖️ The Court's ruling unequivocally establishes that Article 8 of the ECHR, which pertains to the right to respect for private and family life, extends to the right of individuals to effective protection by State authorities from the severe impacts of climate change on life, health, well-being, and quality of life. This judgment marks a pivotal moment, reinforcing the notion that combating climate change is not just an environmental imperative but a human rights obligation. The Court emphasized the positive obligation to take timely and appropriate legislative action to mitigate climate change's adverse effects. In holding Switzerland accountable for failing to fulfill these obligations, the ECtHR sends a clear message: action on climate change is a non-negotiable aspect of protecting human rights. As professionals, policymakers, and citizens, this judgment invites us to reflect on the role of democratic decision-making in environmental policy and the complementary roles of national and international courts in safeguarding our planet for future generations. So curious to see how will this play out, to dive deeper and learn more! Restorative Justice Practitioner & Consultant || Doctoral Research Scholar || Academician || Trained Mediator || Trainer
Restorative Environmental Justice! In August 2021, I delivered a webinar on 'Environmental Law: From the Perspective of Restorative Justice' in the Friends For Future's Webinar Series. Friends For Future is a #GlobalNetwork of #Environmental and #ClimateChange activists, connecting community to catalyse climate action and sustainable living through peer-to-peer #Education. This webinar series was turned into an amazing project by Shuma Talukdar, LL.M. and M.P.A. and Valéria Emília De Aquino. Resultantly, a book was compiled with all the chapters in Jurisdictional and Thematic Review of Judicial Responses to Climate Change in Global South by Springer Law. I wrote a chapter on #RestorativeEnvironmentalJustice from a #FeministPerspective. I must acknowledge that this was one of the most challenging paper I ever wrote. It made me use a diverse approach, a confluence of restorative justice, environmental law, and feminism, outside my basic domain of work. You can find the work here: https://lnkd.in/ea2YGtsx Happy learning. #RestorativeJustice #EnvironmentalLaw #ClimateChange #Feminism #Restoration
