This week, the Genially team packed their suitcases and headed to Denver (USA) to showcase at #ISTELive 2024, one of the most important EdTech events in the world! We don’t just join the adventure, we bring the adventure… 🤠We hosted an agenda of sessions where thousands of educators stopped by to learn more. This year we focused on #gamification, showing how Genially simplifies creating resources like escape games, breakouts, and interactive quizzes, encouraging learner critical thinking and collaboration. 🤠We also teamed up with some of our EdTech friends Tools for Schools (Book Creator), Kami, MagicSchool AI, Seesaw Learning, ScreenPal and Wakelet on the ISTE Scavenger Hunt. Powered by Genially, educators followed the trail around the hall, collecting stamps with the chance of winning a trip of a lifetime! 🫶 Thanks to everyone who visited us at our booth and attended our workshops! Another year at ISTE, another year of amazing memories made with our community, ambassadors, and friends. We're thrilled to see more and more people recognizing Genially as a real authoring and gamification tool. See you next year!

Recent awareness of social media concerning students and education highlights the desperate need for regulations, but also the need to address the underlying issues it has caused up to this point in time. As we continue navigating the aftermath of the pandemic, we must reimagine our educational strategies. In addressing my pedagogy, my first objective has centered on prioritizing the gamification of education. With today's generation being immersed in technology, adapting to this reality is essential. As educators, we must leverage gamification to engage students effectively and cater to their learning preferences. By incorporating the mechanics of gameplay into education, we can create a stimulating environment that aligns with their digital experiences, thus addressing the damage that social media has and continues to unleash. I've just finished this edX course from the University of Michigan and Microsoft on Gameful Learning, and it was an eye opener. Edutainment is big business. The industry is expected to grow to around $18B USD by the end of the decade, and with devices like Apple Vision Pro coming online we can expect to see even more interactive and gamified educational products out there. But not all gamification leads to positive educational experiences, and this course really dug into what we should take from games, and what we might want to leave behind. Gameful Learning isn't just flashing lights, badges, and bright colours - in fact, 'fun' doesn't have to be a factor. Instead, the model suggests we lean into the elements that make us as humans want to play games. Games challenge us, but give us space to explore, and room to fail without significant consequences. They give us a sense of autonomy, belonging, and competence, all three of which are also strongly related to successful learning. What about you, have you used edutainment products like Duolingo for your own learning, or used them in the classroom? People like Cam Martin are doing some incredible things with VR programs like Work Window, and I wonder where they will fit in? How will AI impact on this space?
