Gateway Development Commission (GDC)’s Post

Gateway Development Commission (GDC) reposted this

Today, FTA Regional Administrator Mike Culotta signed a U.S. Department of Transportation RAISE grant document with Gateway Development Commission (GDC) that unlocks $25 million for a new bridge in New Jersey, a major step toward advancing plans to build a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River. The federal grant selection, announced last year, supports construction of a new Tonnelle Avenue bridge in North Bergen to take drivers over a railroad right-of-way that will be part of a future Hudson River Tunnel. The bridge will improve safety for pedestrians and reduce congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by reducing idling, while the future tunnel will better meet the needs of Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT riders and build resilience in one of the most significant transportation infrastructure projects to be undertaken in the U.S.
